On 30 September 2009, I was staying in a lodge on an estate near Lockerbie in Scotland. It was a fine evening, and at 6.30pm I was walking in light, mixed woodland on a hardcore drive that led to the main house. As I rounded a corner I saw, about 50 yards away and in slightly fading daylight, what appeared to be a small bush, say four to five feet (1.2 to 1.5m) high, beside the drive. It was covered with 50 or maybe more twinkling white lights, like those on a Christmas-tree. I approached it gingerly, even thinking it might be something sinister, but after I had gone only a few yards it slowly turned and faded away into the woodland and disappeared.
