As Christmas approached, Nigel Fowler of London was startled to discover the initials JC on this oyster shell while walking on Maplethorpe Beach, Yorkshire, and wondered if this could perhaps be an advent announcement. Adrian Rundle from the Earth Lab at the Natural History Museum, London, verified that the marks are genuine, created by the tunnelling of the segmented worm Pomatocer Triuetra.
