Mike Metcalf sent us this startling photo. He writes:

"I opened my bedroom blinds at the weekend to find this ghostly image staring back at me: the perfect imprint of a pigeon, which had presumably flown straight into the pane during the night. Perhaps 'ghostly' was the perfect term: later that day, I found the culprit, or victim - a very dead, now half
cat-eaten pigeon lying in the corner of my garden.

Do many animals leave their perfect after-image as they head off into the afterlife?"
