| We have just been sitting out in the garden when we spotted two orange 'balls' of light flying parallel to each other, we shouted our two sons to come & look & as we did another spherical light appeared in front of the two original lights, as did one to the rear, gradually as we watched the first three lights faded whilst the latter one seemed to stop & remain static for a few moments before disappating. Approx 15 minutes later I glanced behind us to notice a formation of 5 spherical orange lights forming a triangle passing over us this surounded a black triangular 'mass' which made no sound at all and could be described as a craft. There was another orange light to the left of this formation which joined the others simultaneously disappearing - has anyone else experienced this sighting this evening ?? |

| My initial thoughts were chinese lanterns, except the lights were moving with a definite purpose which saw them joining up with the black triangular craft. |

Quick test for lanterns:
what direction were the lights going in and how fast.
weather been fairly quiet over UK for a while. Today's weather (monday) has a predominantly west to east airflow, quite brisk in the north of england 17-20 knots. Don't think it was much different saturday night? |

The lights were first moving quickly south when they first appeared at around about 500 feet. They then disappeared before reappearing after about 15 minutes later in the northern sky moving north above our house again at the same altitude.
The size of the triangular object was difficult to gauge as it was totally black but from my perspective it looked huge.
It was a very calm clear night with no wind at all. |

Check your local newspapers for any stories, and if you want local notoriety contact them describing what you saw and ask if anyone else saw the lights.
Its easy to join the dots at night to make shapes out of individual lights.
On the other it might be a craft as you describe.
(I'd recommend a read of my and a friend's essay on black triangle UFOs we did 10 years ago, but I've lost my website so have nowhere to post it.) I'm of the opinion that some, at least, reports of black triangle UFOs do refer to actual craft, but also they're most probably of earth origin.) |

Tonight is Bonfire Night, and I saw something odd. It was quite an impressive sighting. Among the bursting rockets and roman candles I saw a single motionless orange-pink light; it looked about the same brightness as Jupiter, but it was due East. As I watched it I noticed it was moving.
Slowly it came nearer, and I could see it was below the clouds. I wondered if it was some unusual night-flying aircraft, coming from Linton-on-Ouse or somewhere; it gradually started to disappear, as if it were going upwards into the cloud, but I could still see it vaguely.
Then it started to get really weird. The internal illumination had gone out, but by the light of the streetlamps I could see that it was an extended object, much larger than I thought at first. I couldn't make out a shape but it could have easily been saucer shaped.
Finally it descended to a height of maybe a hundred feet or so, and into the brightly lit area above the local school (for some security-related reason the school has lots of bright lights on poles all round it). Now I could see it in detail, despite the fact that the internal light had gone out- it consisted of a rectangular box-like shape, twisting and collapsing as it fell. The Chinese Lantern (I could at last see) was a fairly small object floating down towards the ground, no more than a couple of metres high and collapsing as it drifted down. Until I saw that box-like shape I hadn't really identified it for certain; if it had not been so close I might never have identified it at all. |

My friend once saw a very similar sounding UFO. There are pitfalls of writing to the local paper though, as apparently they made about half of this article up. The triangle wasn't shooting beams of light in all directions!!
Mysteriously, the driver of the bus in question said 'Oh, we see all sorts of things like that on the nightshift'... brrr. |

Hi Honeysox,
I live in the Peterlee area and with my family, saw the exact self same things that you describe at about 8.30 or thereabouts. There was one large triangle shape with orange lights on the end of each triangular point. There were also 3 other orange balls of light which travelled in the same direction and at the same very slow speed as the larger triangle shape.
I first observed the lights from a distance of about 1 and a half miles from my upstairs office window and watched for a good ten to fifteen minutes as the triangular shape and other lights moved in a south easterly direction from Shotton Colliery over the forest & Castle Eden Dene beside the A19 heading towards where I live prior to the objects doing a sharp easterly turn heading out over Peterlee.
At that stage, I began to lose sight of the objects however, based on the trajectory the objects had taken had they carried on the same, way, they would have headed out over the North Sea. |
