Very Happy That's almost word for word what my Dad used to say about them.

Techy's Da served with the Gurkhas too and was full of admiration. He reckoned they'd go out at night to kill enemy sentries with their big knives, nice and quiet like, just for fun. Shocked

No blood or violence involved, but satisfying anyway!

Cold caller firm pays out for wasting businessman's time
A businessman has taken revenge on cold callers by successfully suing them for wasting his time.
By Richard Alleyne
7:00AM BST 27 Oct 2012

Richard Herman, 53, was so upset with firms phoning him up and trying to sell him goods and services he decided to charge them for the time they took out of his day.
He recorded the calls and then sent an invoice charging £10 for every minute he spent on the phone.
When they refused to pay up he sued them at the small claims court and won. Very Happy
The marketing company AAC agreed to pay the full £195 for 19-and-a-half minutes of calls, plus a £25 court fee.

Mr Herman told the Daily Mail: "I was feeling oppressed that I was getting called by these companies.
"Once I sent the company the invoice, I felt as though the boot was on the other foot. I wasn’t the victim any more."

The victory could open the floodgates to further claims from the millions of home owners plagued by similar unwanted calls.
Mr Herman is urging others targeted by cold-callers to follow his example.

The nuisance calls tried to convince Mr Herman that they can secure thousands of pounds in refunds of Payment Protection Insurance (PPI), insurance supposed to cover debts if you fall ill or cannot work.

They tried to get hold of his personal details then pass them [to]companies desperate to grab a share of a £9 billion compensation pot made available after Britain’s banks were found to have routinely mis-sold PPI.
The claims firms typically take a third of the compensation paid out.
This means they stand to make £80 million this year from a record 165,000 complaints about PPI.

Mr Herman, of Sunbury-on-Thames, Surrey, described the disruption caused to him and wife Ruth, 67, as they rushed to answer the phone so as not to miss a chat with friends or their three grown-up children.
Mr Herman said: "Once I was out in the garden eating and picking raspberries and had the telephone with me in case the children called.
"I was sat in the sun enjoying myself but one of these blasted companies called me – it was infuriating.
"We’re all busy rushing around all day long, so when we snatch four minutes by ourselves for a bit of peace and quiet, the last thing you want is to be intruded upon by these irrelevant companies."

The marketing firm AAC, which made the call on PPI’s behalf, settled Mr Herman’s claim on September 14 before the case appeared before a judge.

Mr Herman has now set up a website – www.saynotocoldcalls.com – to help other victims.

Just yesterday (feeling listless after a poor night's sleep, and unable to settle to anything) I decided I'd listen to the next PPI call, and when I got to a human rather than a taped message, I'd give him an earful about wasting my time! But I like the idea of charging them even better! Twisted Evil

I love that idea.

It probably wouldn't work with that nice man from India who told me his name was Austin Powers. Confused

You do have to ask what kind of country allows these parasites to thrive in the first place!

No answer required. Sad

Pensioner with hatchet chases burglar from home
http://www.irishtimes.com/newspaper/ireland/2013/0119/1224329047678.html
STEPHEN MAGUIRE

Sat, Jan 19, 2013

A pensioner chased a burglar from her home with a hatchet as he robbed her handbag.

The 69-year-old woman heard noises at her home in Kilmacrennan, Co Donegal, just after 4am yesterday.

The woman, who lives alone, was in another part of the house and called the Garda.

The intruder took the woman’s handbag but fled when she chased him with the hatchet. She was unhurt. Gardaí arrived a short time later.

Half an hour later, gardaí raided another house near the scene and arrested a 24-year-old man. They also recovered the woman’s handbag.

Relatives said the woman was badly shaken and would prefer not to comment.

The arrested man was last night still being questioned by gardaí under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act.

When you need laughter to turn to screams, you can't beat a good hatchet. Laughing

Gunman dies after public stop Plymouth bookmaker robbery
[Video: The BBC's Louise Walter reports from the scene of the attempted robbery in Plymouth]

A masked gunman has died after being pinned down and restrained by customers during an armed robbery at a bookmakers in Plymouth, police have said.
The man, in his 50s, entered the Ladbrokes branch in Crownhill Road at 18:45 GMT on Friday wearing a gas mask and holding a pistol.
Customers disarmed the man and held him on the floor, police said.
Police arrested the man, who was already unconscious, upon arrival but he died a short time later.

The man has been identified but next of kin have not yet been informed, a spokesman for Devon and Cornwall Police said.
The spokesman said when the man entered the shop, he was "immediately tackled" by customers and "held down still wearing his gas mask".

When officers arrived, they attempted to resuscitate the man until paramedics arrived but he was declared dead about 20 minutes later.
The police watchdog, the Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC), has been informed.
Ch Insp Ian Drummond-Smith said: "This is a very serious incident. We cannot speculate on what has actually taken place here today.
"A full investigation has now begun and while the IPCC carry out their investigation it is not appropriate to comment further."

Ladbrokes declined to comment.

Wouldn't dream of speculating, but it is probably safe to point out that bookmakers' customers may not all be shrinking violets.

That was exactly my thought when I heard it on the news this morning.

Last summer somebody tried holding up a bookies in my neighbourhood with a knife. One of the regulars, a rugby player and doorman, set about him with a chair.Bookmakers don't strike me as the most obvious robbery target either.
