Now this just goes to show how we all see different things. My immediate response was 'oh, yeah!' but I was seeing something different and in a different place. I've crudely outlined what I saw; wait for the .gif to load fully.

Might be barely an outline on that pic, but barely. Could be the way the pixels are moving on the camera.

The first and most obvious question for your friend would be 'Is there a big grey stain on the graveyard/cemetery wall?'

It doesn't, on the face of it, appear to be stain because - if one is to assume a figure shape - the head and upper shoulder section continue vertically as the top wall slopes back away from the photographer.

I Can't quite decide if the discolouration/outline continues down over the snow. When I first looked, I was inclined to say it did, but covering the top part and looking at the snow in isolation, I'm not so inclined to say it does. If it doesn't, the figure - if human in form - would seem to be incomplete.

So, graves, whose are they? They look modern.

Wikipedia gives this (usual caveats apply)

Quote:
Moreton Corbet Castle
Haunting

It is said the grounds are haunted by the ghost of Paul Holmyard. He was a Puritan, who at the time of their persecution, was given protection by Vincent Corbet. But as the Puritans became more fanatical, Vincent Corbet felt he could no longer provide protection, and Paul Holmyard was forced to leave. Paul Holmyard took shelter in the nearby woods. One day, when Vincent Corbet was planning some more building work, Paul Holmyard appeared and put a curse on him. From that day, Vincent Corbet never lived in the building again.

Also:

Quote:
The Puritan of Moreton Corbet Castle

The house, built on the site of an earlier castle, was begun in the late 15th Century by Sir Robert Corbet who brought the plans back from Italy but died before its completion.

He was succeeded by Sir Vincent Corbet who continued the work during the reign of King James I - when persecuting Puritans was considered the thing to do.

Although Sir Vincent was not a puritan he did not like to see them treated harshly and so he took in a puritan called Paul Holmyard who was his neighbour.

But as the puritan's ideals became more fanatical he told Holmyard to go from his property as he felt he could no longer protect him.

Holmyard survived for some time in the local woods by eating whatever he could.

Eventually he risked coming into the open and made his way to Morton Corbet where, upon his meeting Sir Vincent, he cursed the family.

"Woe unto thee, hard hearted man, the lord has hardened thy heart as he hardened the heart of the Pharaoh, to thine own destruction.

"Rejoice not in thy riches, not in monuments of thy pride, for neither thou, nor thy children, nor thy children's children shall inhabit these halls.

"They shall be given up to desolation; snakes, vipers and unclean beasts shall make it their refuge, and thy home shall be full of doleful creatures.."
[No citation or source available online.]

The curse was fulfilled - at least insofar as Vincent and his son, Andrew, never lived at the house because they were so afraid of the curse. Eventually .

On a moonlit night the bedraggled figure of Paul Holmyard stalks the empty walls making sure no building goes on.

Could the thread title be amended to include the place name instead of friends (which is misleading, and should have been friend's anyway!)?

The white area extends onto the ground so I'd say a blob of some kind. Camera artefact or general whatnot.

Evil or Very Mad

Please consider that many readers are not technically-minded and may not understand specialised optical jargon.

Apologies. The brevity is merely to spare readers of my familiarity with optics and associated processes. Of semi-translucent psychic phenomena I know almost nothing, so it could of course be one of them things. Blob fits better than revenant monk.

I second this. Otherwise, we'll all think it's Joey's ghost.
