I am in Altrincham on Saturday. I'm hoping there's something there to see apart from the shops.

Does anyone know of any Fortean-type places or things to see, either there or reasonably close by?

Dunno about Altrinham, but there's supposedly some good places in nearby Alderley Edge, Roman remains and such like

Saturday should bring out a fair crop of orange-faced Ladies who Lunch.
Otherwise, I can't think of many spooky things, unless you've a yen to
visit that grotty back alley where those weird boys acted out their suicide-
murder fantasy. (FT 186, p.04)

Just outside Altrincham, there is Dunham Massey, a stately home with
an impressive park. I'm fairly sure it has a ghost.

In the town, there is a Victorian covered market and near it a small flea-market which
is usually full of curios. Allow yourself an hour to buzz around the charity
shops which are good for old books, sheet-music and records.

For lunch itself, nearby Hale is probably better. I wish I could remember the
name of the posh little department store whose upstairs tearooms do splendid
sandwiches and salads. But Hale isn't large so you can't really miss it.

Happy hunting! Smile
