Ban on menthol cigarettes
I remember my Auntie smoked Consulate - "Cool as a Mountain Stream!" Of course I had to try . . .
It seems to be the alcopop tendency of the mint flavour that has prompted the ban, rather than the rumours that the menthol enhances the carcinogens.
Meanwhile, I see MPs spouting what looks like PR for the e-cigarette business. I notice a lot of once-vacant shops are now trading as e-cigarette joints. I suspect it is a pyramid-franchise operation that might appeal to the newly redundant. Peering into these sparsely-furnished shops with their hopeful-looking staff who outnumber the customers, I get the impression they won't last long. Meanwhile are there lobbyists at work in Westminster?
The addictive nature of nicotine might make e-cigarettes a better bet than the alcohol-free bar movement. But removing the smoke does not always remove the stink. |

| Scottish sports reporter Archie MacPherson was in the paper today saying even though he'd never smoked in his life he now has lung cancer and the doctors say passive smoking is to blame. I know it's a selfish habit but that takes the biscuit. |

Do you have evidence to contradict the doctors? Presumably they wouldn't say that without enquiring first about his life-style. |

| As far as I could ascertain from the article the doctors' diagnosis of cancer from passive smoking was spot on thanks to all that time Archie spent in smoke-filled bars. But I'm not a doctor myself. |

| I don't actually see how you can prove or falsify that it was cigarette smoke that caused caused a cell to turn cancerous at some point... it might be a risk factor and it might be likely... but not conclusive. |
