Mexico graves yield more bodies
Police in Mexico have found eight decapitated bodies in the northern state of Durango.
Among the dead was the deputy governor of Durango's prison, who had been abducted on Monday.
Gerardo Galindo's head was found next to a wall bearing a threatening message by a local drug gang.
Prison officials are increasingly being targeted by drug gangs, whose jailed members often continue to run their businesses from behind bars.
In February, the security chief of a prison in the northern city of Monterrey was murdered.
His dismembered body was found in a plastic box inside a car abandoned near the prison he worked at.
Officials have not yet identified the remaining seven bodies found in Durango.
Forensic experts also uncovered another eight bodies in mass graves in Durango city, the state's capital, bringing the total discovered over the past month to 196.
Durango state governor Jorge Herrera Caldera said on Wednesday that he thought most of those buried in the mass graves had fallen victim to a "settling of scores" between drug gangs.
The state's murder rate has risen steeply in recent years as rival gangs battle for control of the drugs trade in the area. |

Police 'wanted beheading suspect'
Beheading inquiry police thanked
The man accused of beheading a British grandmother in Tenerife had been treated in a psychiatric unit in north Wales, it has emerged.
Deyan Deyanov was reported to be visiting relatives when he was detained for his own safety at Glan Clwyd Hospital's Ablett Unit, Denbighshire.
Last week, Jennifer Mills-Westley, 60, was murdered in Los Cristianos.
Health officials in north Wales said they had had no contact with Mr Deyanov since October 2010.
Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board, which manages the hospital, said: "The health board can confirm that it provided assistance to North Wales Police in relation to a person detained for his own safety in the summer of 2010.
"The health board has had no further contact with this client since October last year."
It is being reported that Mr Deyanov, 28, was sectioned under the Mental Health Act.
Health officials have given few details, citing patient confidentiality as the reason.
The statement said: "We are currently reviewing all records relating to the case in line with standard clinical procedures.
"We will be co-operating with other statutory agencies but have a duty to protect patient confidentiality and will therefore not be making further statements regarding the case at this time."

It is not clear if he was allowed to leave the psychiatric unit after being assessed as safe, or if he absconded.
The Sun reported that Mr Deyanov, 28, a Bulgarian national, was sectioned during a visit to see relatives in the UK and quoted two of his ex-girlfriends claiming he was a heavy drug user.
North Wales Police would not comment but denied one newspaper report that it had built up a profile of Mr Deyanov and his time in the UK.
Mrs Mills-Westley, originally from Norwich, Norfolk, was inside a Chinese-owned shop on Avenida Juan Carlos when she was stabbed and decapitated.
The grandmother of five had been living in Tenerife after retiring from her job as a road safety officer with Norfolk County Council.
Reports from Tenerife suggest Mr Deyanov had previously received psychiatric treatment on the island.
A search and arrest order was issued for Mr Deyanov on 10 May, just three days before the killing.
The BBC's Sarah Rainsford said a magistrate had ordered his arrest in connection with a violent attack.
Mr Deyanov was arrested on suspicion of murder and is now being held at a psychiatric unit in Tenerife. |

Mexico's drugs war
Marching on?
Damned lies and statistics
Q&A: Drug violence
Cartoon campaign
At least 23 people have been killed in gruesome circumstances in the Mexican city of Nuevo Laredo, on the US border.
Nine bodies with signs of torture were found hanging from a bridge.
Hours later, 14 decapitated bodies were discovered in a vehicle, police said. Their heads were found in ice boxes dumped outside the mayor's office.
Nuevo Laredo is the scene of a feud between two of Mexico's biggest drugs gangs, who are fighting for control of smuggling routes into the US.
A message left with the hanged bodies said they were members of the Gulf drugs cartel who had been killed by the rival Zetas gang.
Police said they believed the dead were members of a criminal gang, but could not confirm who was responsible.
Pictures showed the blood-stained bodies - some of them bound and gagged - hanged by the neck from the bridge over the main road from Nuevo Laredo to Monterrey.
Mexican media reports suggest the decapitations may have been carried out in retaliation for the hangings, but the authorities have not confirmed this.
Mexico's drugs cartels have long been engaged in bloody battles for control of smuggling routes into the US.
Around 50,000 people have died in drug-related violence in Mexico since 2006, when President Felipe Calderon began deploying troops to fight the cartels.
Discontent over the bloodshed has boosted support for opposition parties ahead of July's presidential election. |

In Germany, one method of beheading was the Fallbrett, where a wooden plank was hammered down in a frame to shear the neck away. Worked as well as a blade.
If a hangman makes the drop too long, the head can be torn from the body.
There are worse ways to die. |

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-20599221
A New Jersey woman who decapitated her two-year-old son and then killed herself had smoked PCP-laced marijuana, toxicology results show.
Chevonne Thomas, 34, of Camden, took the drugs then killed her son and put his head in a freezer in August.
She had suffered from mental illness and twice lost custody of her son because of drug use.
It is the second time PCP-laced marijuana has been linked to a killing involving young children in the city.
In September, Osvaldo Rivera is said to have been high on the drug cocktail as he allegedly killed a six-year-old boy and slit his 12-year-old sister's throat - she survived.
Camden County Prosecutor's office released the toxicology results for Chevonne Thomas on Monday. |

| Quote: | Judge, three relatives found beheaded in Ukraine’s Kharkov
http://rt.com/news/judge-decapitated-ukraine-murder-126/
The decapitated bodies of a judge and his family were found at their home in one of the biggest Ukrainian cities of Kharkov on Saturday, police said. The heads were missing from the scene of the crime, which was discovered by shocked relatives.
Victims of the graphic murder were discovered at the apartment of Vladimir Trofimov, 58, who had served as a city district judge for over 30 years.
“The murder took place in the morning, four bodies are decapitated,” police said on Saturday.
The victims' heads, however, were missing from the scene. Local media report the horrific discovery was made by a relative who called police at around 13:00 pm (11:00 GMT). He identified the bodies as judge Trofimov, the judges’ wife, 59, their son, who was in his 30s, and his 29-year-old girlfriend.
“We do not exclude Trofimov’s professional activity as a motive which led to the crime. But we are also looking into other possible motives,” Kharkhov District police chief Viktor Kozitsky said.
Other possible motives include burglary, since Trofimov was a vigorous collector of coins which were famous even outside Ukraine. He also collected fine china and military decorations. Police say some pieces from his collection appear to be missing.
Trofimov is survived by his 90-year-old father and 86-year-old mother.
The murder occurred on the day that Ukrainian court workers celebrate their professional holiday.
Kharkov is Ukraine’s second-largest city and is located in the country’s east. It was one of four Ukrainian cities to host UEFA’s major football tournament Euro 2012. |

THE MAN'S HEAD WAS FOUND WRAPPED IN A PLASTIC BAG AT ROTTNEST ISLAND ON SUNDAY, JANUARY 6. PERTHNOW
WA POLICE say they are still not in a position to officially release the name of the man whose severed head was found at Rottnest Island last week, amid media reports today it could be that of a man in his mid 50s who is due to face court on drugs charges this week.
PerthNow understands that police handling the case are investigating the movements of Stephen Raymond Cookson, who is due to face court on Friday on serious drugs charges.
Mr Cookson, 54, has not been seen for several weeks but police said they would not reveal a name until family had been notified.
"As we have stated continuously police will not confirm the identity of the person until next of kin are notified," a police spokesperson said.
Mr Cookson is listed to appear in the District Court this Friday for a "trial listing hearing" on one count of possession of a prohibited drug with intent to sell or supply, namely methylamphetamine.
According to court documents, his solicitor for that matter is well-known criminal lawyer Linda Black.
But Ms Black told PerthNow Mr Cookson was no longer a client of hers and the case had been passed onto another lawyer.
Major Crime Squad detectives confirmed last week they had identified the severed head, which was found at Rottnest Island last Sunday afternoon.
Police say the head belonged to that of a Caucasian man aged between 30 and 60.
The severed head was found by an 11-year-old girl while she was with her family at Porpoise Bay.
Dozens of police officers spent the weekend at the Quattro apartment complex on Hay Street in East Perth where it's understood the severed head victim lived.
Police started sifting through the apartment for clues and asking other residents from the complex for information from about 4pm on Friday.
Police, who are treating the matter as a murder, say the man had a moustache and a beard.
He was also missing seven upper front teeth.
It is believed the teeth had been missing for several years and police described his other teeth as being in a bad state.
Detectives have been consulting with experts and the state pathologist since the head was found.
They also have collected CCTV from the apartment complex and nearby businesses including the Carlton Hotel.
It is also understood that police have not yet found the other body parts and it is not known where the victim died.
They have not ruled out that the plastic bag was dumped at Rottnest rather than washing ashore.
Anyone with information is asked to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

Carcasses are beheaded by the butcher's cut, a technique that cleanly detaches the head from the neck. The beasts are dead when this is done.
Many of those 'eathen divils in the Middle East are used to doing this to goats and sheep, thus they do the deed for video-just to make the families feel worse.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-asia-china-21826376
Two men have appeared in court in Hong Kong charged with the murder of an elderly couple whose heads were said to have been found in a refrigerator.
One of the men was reportedly the son of the couple, both in their 60s.
Neither he or the other man charged entered a plea when they appeared in court on Monday, local media say.
The couple's older son reported them missing on 9 March. Police are still searching for their missing body parts, with some found at an apartment.
The son, 29, and the other man, 35, were charged with two counts of murder on Sunday, police say.
The younger son had told police the couple were on their way to China, but suspicions were raised when no records of them leaving were found, the South China Morning Post reported.
"The investigation continues on the motive of the case," a police spokeswoman was quoted by Agence-France Presse news agency as saying.
They believe the couple's other body parts have been disposed of into the sea near the apartment, but divers have been unable to retrieve any so far.
Two other murders also shook Hong Kong over the weekend.
A teenager is accused of stabbing his father to death and wounding his mother in a dispute about video games.

| Quote: | Woman’s Pickled Head Found in Public Toilet, Brother Accused of Murder
http://firsttoknow.com/womans-pickled-head-found-in-public-toilet-brother-accused-of-murder-2/
MAR 20 2013 by Mariam Jehangir
Why would someone murder his sister? Why would someone pickle a dead person’s head? Why would someone leave it in the toilet?
Those are some of the questions rising out of a perplexing story involving a Taiwanese man who has been arrested on suspicion of killing his sister, pickling her head and leaving it in a public toilet.
Prior to the 36-year-old woman’s death, her brother “purchased at least four insurance policies for [her] that would give him substantial sums in the event of her death” according to The Daily Mail.
This and a few other facts points to Chen Chia-fu, the 37-year-old brother, as the chief suspect in the case.
The woman went missing in December, but her remains weren’t found until a note matching Chia-fu’s handwriting was sent to the police detailing the location of the body and asking for a ‘proper burial.’
That’s when they discovered the head, rubbed with several layers of salt and wrapped in a plastic bag. The rest of the body has yet to be found.
Chia-fu was taken into custody after police found surveillance video footage of him “carrying [bags of] unidentified objects,” reports NewStraitsTimes.
The siblings lived in Taipie, which is in the Northern tip of Taiwan, but the footage showed him in Chiayi, a southern city. The police suspect him of taking a train to dispose of her head in a secure location.
For his part, the suspect denies any involvement with his sister’s murder. |

http://m.guardian.co.uk/football/2013/jul/07/brazilian-referee-decapitated-stabs-player
Police in northern Brazil say one man has been arrested after a referee who fatally stabbed a player during a match was decapitated by spectators who stormed the field.
Local reports said the incident, which took place on 30 June in the remote Brazilian town of Pio XII, escalated when the player, 30-year-old Josenir dos Santos, became involved in an argument with the referee, Octavio da Silva.
As the confrontation became physical and Dos Santos refused to leave the field, Da Silva allegedly produced a knife and stabbed the player, who died while being taken to hospital.
Reports said that outraged spectators responded by running on to the field and stoning Da Silva, before severing his head and sticking it on a stake in the middle of the field.q | [/quote] |
