| Actually, this was not below the Eiffel Tower (there aren't any trees there as in the background of this photo). It really is at Compiegne and was taken, as previously noted, on the day in 1940 the french surrender was signed in the same railway carriage as used for the WW1 armistice. Hitler then had the site destroyed and the carroage taken to Berlin, where it was wrecked during the later bombing. |
