In future, you may want to set up separate non-admin accounts on your computers in case this happens again.
If your kids (I am making the assumption that's how the SweetIM thing happened) try to install anything again, they may not be able to - because you will have given them a limited account.

I normally use MS Works Calendar to log appointments, etc, (though I back them up in my diary). But today I put in a dental appointment for July, with a 1-day reminder (the sort of stuff that I've been doing for years), but when I pressed OK I got "Microsoft Works has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience." Shocked

(I've tried several times with the same result, including after a restart.)

Anyone had any experience of this, or know any fixes?

Alternatively, is there a Calendar prog on the web I can use instead?
(I thought I'd ask here first before I try searching for one.)

I was going to recommend Sunbird, but it appears that's been discontinued in favour of Thunderbird and Lightning*

I'm having Firefox issues. Start it up, get the start page - but try and open another tab or type in an address and it just closes down. Have tried restarting with add-ons disabled (all of which were fine til last release) and it won't even start in the first place.

I've tried uninstalling and clean re-installing, same thing happens.

Any ideas anyone, beyond using chrome, which is what I'm doing?

My search results are becoming less and less helpful:
I have a few distinct strands of interest: a few 'themes' that I regularly search for my work (often maps and classic fiction, for example), and a few others that I predominantly search for pleasure: for instance WW2, Victorian London and British politics. I've noticed more and more that searches for one group is throwing up an increasing number of results better suited to another: a search for images of Alaska might return a smattering of Jack the Ripper sites, for example. Worse still, searches on new and unrelated topics are thowing up more and more sites that I've already browsed - and often not very helpful ones.

No amount of sweeping, cleansing or purging of cookies and histories seems to have any effect and it seems (i'm not a techy) that it is probably Goigle filtering by IP address or range.

All of which is a preamble to the fact that I'm testing out this:

Go and have a read of their sales pitch on annonymity and advertising. In principle it sounds great.

I just compared search engine results for "Hayle new bridge", to see which pick up my website about it.

Duckduckgo wins - first hit on results page!
Blekko and Bing both had it as the 5th item in their results
Google came in last at 11th on page - but that was actually a link to a short thread on FTMB where I reported that the bridge thread was now online!
