I've asked for the letter so I may be able to scan it & show it on here. Fingers crossed. |
That would certainly be interesting to see, Escargot. |

Growing up in Wigan in the 80's/90's meant that you would regularly come into contact with Purple Acky, increasingly so as he became more well known in his usual haunt of St Helens. In about 1991/2, he approached my mate one friday night around Wigan, taking a fancy to my mate Ian, trying to feel his muscles. He managed to get away after a chase through Wigan town centre!
A few years later, he approached another mate at about 2am in his street which was on a housing estate in Marus Bridge, Wigan and my mate being rather naive, entertained him by doing squat thrusts, star jumps and showing his muscles!
About ten years ago, I was in the car park of Lloyds TSB in Pemberton, Wigan in the daytime and was approached by him! He was about twenty feet away and beckoned me to come and have a chat with him but I managed to get into my car, lock the doors and drive away. I can vouch for the fact that he is MASSIVE and rather scary. Far scarier looking than his released picture.
My brother was even the victim of him. A few years ago, some cops came round to our house to take a statement as my brothers details (he's was a rugby player) were found in his notebook along with all his measurements, car registration, address and loads of other things.
In his defence, apart from being very intimidating he has never actually tried to bum anyone as far as I know and is just apparently interested in what is described above really. As far as I know, he has never tried to hurt anyone.
Then again, would YOU tell anyone if you got bummed by Purple Acky?! |

Really sensitive use of the word 'bummed' there, but I do understand what you mean.
from all of the reports generally referred to he he doesn't seem to actually be attempting physical harm, here. But the intimidation and obsessive tracking of people is definitely very threatening, premeditated and aggressive. |

| I though 'bummed' chimed rather nicely with the username "Pornosonic1975" and the fact that Mr Aki was the the stuff of playground rumours. |

Well, yeah, I suppose.
What I find more interesting here though, as posted earlier, is that the UL or 'Purple Aki' was known down here in Warwickshire in the 80s. As far as I know Aki himself was never active down here. It's interesting to see just how far the UL of a REAL very disturbing character can travel.
Anybody else recall this as an Urban Legend from the 80s/90s outside of the North-west of England? |

It's pretty amazing, I suppose.
But then, on the other hand, kids, being kids, tell tall-tale to other kids. You would have to suppose that the vast majority of those hearing and telling the stories had no direct experience of homo purpura, or even anyone else who did. However, all it would take is a few movers from school to school, area to area, and it's all quite explicable. I think the 'realness' of the legend would have had the effect of increasing the number of first-hand encounters (which would be both geographically and temporally disparate) from which the story could spread. Were the purple predator the figment of an imagination or a misapprehension, the story would have died. Mr Aki, on the contrary kept generating numerous first instances over a number of years.
What I would like to know is whether Aki himself realised or even now realises he has become a bogeyman. |

From the ever-reliable Wikipedia:
| Quote: | | During the court case Arobieke made an apology to his victims and admitted that he was "infamous, notorious, everything from a bogeyman to whatever". |

| Using the word 'whatever' in an apology doesn't sound massively heartfelt now, does it? |

| Quote: | Notorious Liverpool man jailed for touching boy’s muscles
Jun 25 2010 by Our Correspondent, Liverpool Echo
A NOTORIOUS Liverpool man with a fetish for feeling teenage boys’ muscles was was labelled a “sexual predator” by a judge as he was jailed yesterday.
Akinwale Arobieke, 48, was locked up for two-and-a-half years after a jury found him guilty of touching the calf and thigh muscles of a 16-year-old boy in Llandudno, north Wales.
The offence, in November last year, was a breach of a sexual offences prevention order (SOPO) banning him from touching boys’ muscles, made after a raft of previous offences in Merseyside.
Yesterday the jury found him guilty, by an 11-to-one majority verdict, at the end of a four-day trial at Caernarfon crown court.
He was also banned for an unlimited period from setting foot in Llandudno.
Arobieke claimed the incident never happened and said the boy must have made it up “for fun” after reading internet stories about him, including a Wikipedia page.
He also said he was “vulnerable” to baseless allegations because of the order against him.
Arobieke, who is 6ft 5in, said he would not have acted in such a way because he knew the Llandudno street was covered by many CCTV cameras.
He told the jury: “I stand out.”
But Judge Nic Parry told him: “You are a plausible individual, but the jury has not been fooled by you.”
He said Arobieke had been a “sexual predator” on many occasions.
Judge Parry said for a quarter of a century Arobieke had a history of assault, dishonesty and public order offences.
Karl Scholz, prosecuting, revealed he had more than 40 convictions, including eight for actual bodily harm, seven for assaulting police, six for threatening behaviour and one for a threat to kill.
Urging the judge not to ban him from Llandudno, Brigid Baillie, defending, said he had to tell police whenever he left Liverpool anyway because of the SOPO.
She said he was in care from six months old and once lived in a Barnardos home in Llandudno.
But Judge Parry said Arobieke, of Hornby Road, Walton, had added to the trauma of young men.
He added: “The court has long recognised the need to protect the public from sexual harm caused by you.”

So clearly there is real reason to be wary. |

| When i was a kid growing up in the Preston area, us kids talked of a local pervert who hung around the woods near the park. His name was 'Dooley'. But I don't recall anyone ever seeing him. |
