If I click the "back" button and hit "submit" again, it posts just fine.
Running the latest version of Firefox with a butt-ton of extensions, a number of which I've just disabled. |
When that happens to me, I just hit the browser's Refresh button. That usually fixes it. |

Just had it happen again. As before, the MB inserts spurious question marks into the text.
In this case, in one post it happened several times in large amounts of money. But I can't illustrate what I mean without the same thing happening to this post! So you'll have to use your imagination: suppose the original source text mentions the sum of $10 million, but actually prints it without the space between the '$10' and 'million', the MB inserts a question mark instead - and then claims it can't insert new word matches!!!
To correct this, I have to replace the question mark with a space (as shown above), and then all is well.
This does seem to be a consistent error, and it's probably something that a small change in the phpBB coding would cure.
I don't claim this is the source of all "Could not insert.." errors, but it does account for a lot of them. Can something be done about it? |

Sorry for tardy reply - I've been away a few days.
I'll be emailing the hosting people presently about a few things, this included. |

Here's a novelty.
I just made a post, and got the dreaded "Could not insert..." message.
So I went in search of my post to repair any errors, and found it had in fact been accepted perfectly normally! And no errors (like spurious question marks) to be seen!
EDIT: I was wrong - there were actually at least half a dozen spurious question marks! But they didn't prevent the post being made or indexed.
This time, instead of being embedded in large numbers like £5,000,000, the question marks were attached randomly to the start of perfectly ordinary words.
It's a pain having to edit your own typos, but having to edit ones put in there by FTMB is doubly annoying! |

Are you using an Apple Mac or iPad?
Just curious - I've seen that 'spurious character' thing before on Apple products. |

Nope, just a PC running MS IE.
But this thread shows what a long history this problem has. It's down to the MB, not the OS. |

As a matter of curiosity, which version of IE are you using? |

The latest, whatever that may be. I updated it just a few weeks ago, in fact. |

Plus, I receive automatic updates as well. Coincidentally, the latest was loading as I typed the above - I've just restarted the computer to complete the install! |

It could be the MB, but the fault may lie elsewhere.
Having looked around the web, it's just possible that the question marks are a font issue, or it could be something to do with the way IE formats a page.
http://scripts.sil.org/cms/scripts/page.php?item_id=FontFAQ_Display#b0551258
or, it could be an update to windows causing the problem:

...
kevin says:
with the latest update for windows 7, i’ve noticed lots of random unicodes everywhere ( like every comment from a different user would have a random triangle question mark unicode symbol lodged somewhere between the spaces in their comments- – sentences). Another awesome thing to include would be websites not loading because of damn unicodes messing up the html or something like that. Flash players take like 5 minutes to start up as well. [PT: December 2012]
... |
Which would also be a font issue.
Then there's a possibility that the problems lies in the compatibility of the version of Windows your running, with the version of IE you're using.

Shouldn't be a problem, since I got it straight from the horse's mouth, ie the MS webpages, which not only check which OS you have, but which is the latest IE version that works with that.
As for a font issue, I've not noticed any problems with spurious characters elsewhere on the web, it's just on FTMB! |
