True, but it was not obviously a Nazi logo - it took a nerdy train-spotter to make that connection!

I expect they'll find a pic of a Russian loco to replace it. (As long as it's not a Stalinist, or some other non-PC ist, loco! Wink )

That whole thing is a bit ridiculous - it doesn't have any Nazi iconography on it at all. Rolling Eyes

From an emailed newsletter:

For the final project of my degree (Masters in Broadcast Journalism at Falmouth University) I want to focus on the British fishing industry...

The challenge of disguards at sea needs to be explained, because it looks like insanity.

So, someone doing an MA can't spell 'discards'! Twisted Evil

This one's doing the rounds..

The Coca Cola "share with your friends" campaign is global. In France, this would be "vos amis". Unless a typo removes the dot from the "i", and you end up with:

Not really an unfortunate headline so much as a self-consciously naughty one, I fear, having read the first paragraph of this story with its references to gaping holes and horned helmets:

I'm a Ring Virgin

That hardy perennial of the odd books circuit, Penetrating Wagner's Ring, was possibly unintended.

The Amazon Reviews for that are much more fun than the Grauniad piece.

The Guardian piece is also an example of the way in which it seems impossible to mention Wagner today without bringing up the Nazis.

At first glance it looks like any other page in a family-friendly, local newspaper.

But lurking within the adverts lining the letters page of the Pembrokeshire Herald, is a decidedly top-shelf offer.

For as well as a quality range of cars and vans, Enterprise-Rent-A-Car appears to be promising free pick-ups AND "c*ck s*cking".

"And bare in mind this guy is an ex-navel doctor, so he's no soft option, he knows what it is to be incapable of work."

It is the (correct) apostrophe which startles in this context!

This one from the BBC is particularly stupid:

Quote:
George Doulat was jailed in his absence for 10 years for raping and sexually assaulting a teenager

No he wasn't! Razz You can convict and sentence someone in their absence, you can't take someone into custody in their absence!

I found this in the MOD speaking clock story that is mentioned in another thread:

Quote:
In 2007, Sara Mendes da Costa from Brighton won a competition to become the fourth permanent voice for the speaking clock in a BT competition that raised £200,000 for BBC Children In Need.

How can someone be the fourth permanent voice... assuming she doesn't live somewhere between Edinburgh and Fife.

If she's the fourth one the other three couldn't have been that permanent. Confused
