OTTAWA - Kemptville-area farmer Jim Shaw couldn't believe his eyes when one of his prized Simmental cows gave birth to triplets.
Mr. Shaw has witnessed the births of many calves. But never three at once.
"It's extremely rare," said Mr. Shaw, a retired elementary school principal who has a farm in Hallville, about eight kilometres east of Kemptville. "I phoned the veterinarian and she said it was unheard-of."

Triplets (the calves aren't identical BTW) aren't that exeptionally rare - I've heard of a few - but twinning is inherited rather than 90% single 8% twins 2% triplets, and is a good sign of good feeding early on, and as simmental are used to breed better traits into US cattle I'd have thought there'd be more
