So then anyone know where it is that black cats go at midnight on St. John's Eve? Smile

My understanding is that Black Cats are linked to Witchcraft.

I've pretty much lived with Black Cats all my life and find them quite creatures, beautiful and placid, but good hunters and with a crazy streak a mile wide.

I heard once that if a Black Cat was found with any white hair it was spared from being put to death. If it was fully Black it was curtains for kitty as it was felt to be demoniacal.

I can't actually remember seeing a totally black cat but wonder if this is an olde Urban Myth?

I used to see a completely black cat on my way to primary school, wanted it to cross my path (thinking it was lucky), but it never did.

Woman claiming injury denies falling over black cat

A WOMAN who has sued her former brother-in-law over ankle injuries suffered when she fell allegedly as a result of “a crumbling step” at his home, has denied in the High Court suggestions the fall was caused by a black cat.

Despite the belief of some people that encountering a black cat means good fortune, Margaret Caldwell said such an encounter had not brought her any luck and she remained in constant pain because of the fall.

While she observed a black cat sitting to her left after she fell on May 9th, 2007, she denied the fall was caused by the cat and said it was due to a “a crumbling step”.

Ms Caldwell (52), Oakleigh, Dublin Road, Navan, Co Meath, is suing Eugene Caldwell, Drumcargy, Upper Maracloon, Carrickmacross, Co Monaghan, over the fall. When Joseph McGettigan SC, for Mr Caldwell, put it to her that extracts from reports of two separate hospitals stated Ms Caldwell had told the hospital authorities she had fallen over a cat, Ms Caldwell said she told the hospitals she fell when a step crumbled and denied falling over a cat.

She agreed she had been involved in a road traffic incident in 2008 as a result of which she had secured €10,000 damages.

In evidence, Eugene Caldwell said Ms Caldwell had told him she had tripped on the cat and had not said anything about the step crumbling. There were always a couple of cats around the house, he said.

A crack in the step was inflicted by a JCB but there was no difficulty walking on it, and the step had been replaced due to water seeping into the house, he added.

The hearing was adjourned to Friday.

High Court rejects cat claim
http://www.irishtimes.com/newspaper/ireland/2011/0203/1224288892781.html
Thu, Feb 03, 2011

A HIGH Court judge has awarded a woman €115,000 damages over ankle injuries suffered in a fall from a “crumbling step” at her former brother-in-law’s home after rejecting defence claims she fell over a cat.

Margaret Caldwell said she had seen a black cat nearby after her fall but denied the fall was caused by tripping over it. As she picked herself up, she had thought to herself the cat had not brought her good luck, she said.

The defence had claimed the cat had tripped her and denied the fall was caused by “a crumbling step”.

Yesterday, Mr Justice Sean Ryan said he accepted the fall was caused by the step and not the cat. Awarding €115,000 damages, the judge said Ms Caldwell had had “a pretty miserable time” over some four years due to her injuries.

Ms Caldwell (52), Oakleigh, Dublin Road, Navan, Co Meath, had brought the case against Eugene Caldwell, her former brother-in-law, of Drumcargy, Carrickmacross, Co Monaghan, as a result of the fall at his house on May 9th, 2007.

The court heard her former husband Patrick Caldwell, from whom she has been separated for some time, had contacted her in May 2009 asking her to help with getting a room ready at Eugene’s home for their mother, who was returning from hospital.

While removing bags from the house, Ms Caldwell said she felt a step crumbling beneath her. She fell and suffered a broken ankle.

Afterwards, she noticed a black cat sitting to her left with green eyes and thought the animal did not bring her much good luck. The step was all broken when she looked back after the fall, she said.

She suffered a fractured ankle and after an operation was wheelchair-bound for eight weeks, she said. She still had throbbing, grinding pain in her legs and was on sleeping tablets and painkillers.

After Mr Justice Ryan’s decision, Joseph McGettigan SC, for the defendant, asked for a stay on the award in the event of an appeal.

The judge agreed to a stay on condition €65,000 was paid now to Ms Caldwell.

My cast is a Russian blue which is in fact not blue at all but a uniform very deep grey. Accordingly when he sits in shadowy areas he is largely invisible until he moves into the light. It thus looks like he has just magically appeared from nowhere or been beamed down from somewhere in the future.

This is probably why black cats are viewed with suspicion given their apparent ability to materialize at will.

Either that or they are witches.
