I've just bunged some links here to some vids that are clearly NOT UFOs.
Just in case anyone needs a comparison/reference point, for things that they can't identify.

#1. Plane coming in to land at night.
Not obvious to start with, but as it gets closer, well, you decide.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IBJ32eVWVNc

#2. Plane high in sky during daytime.
Again, not immediately obvious, but as the footage continues it becomes much clearer.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NN0IixsWh1U

#3. Remote control saucer shaped model aircraft.
(zip forward to 3:02 to see flight of 'geobat')
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WKiQqORDnJQ

#4. Remote control model with a more 'traditional' UFO shape.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sdGVI7kJld0&feature=related

#5. Experimental 'rotating wing' remote control craft.
Very odd flight characteristics.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5ChvTm8peuo

#6. Ascent, separation, and re-entry of the Ares I-X rocket.
As filmed by observers from a distance.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D8NuBAjXKKQ

#7. Helicopter at night with searchlight - most likely police.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vzcbNPwzALE&feature=related

#8. A collection of 'chinese lanterns'.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6VlDttanQKE&NR=1
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ReMj-EHGGAU&feature=related
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hpZlJF4jfsM

#9. A collection of blimps and airships.
Goodyear.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JHlYS9Jrc8Q
Lockheed Martin P-791.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v2Xs0mvJLK0&feature=related
US Army ACE dirigible.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=udQoRFIYiMk

#10. Weather balloons.
Launch of typical weather balloon (at 3:10)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jGQWUFEMxT8
Arctic weather balloon launch (at 3:20)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wiMEJknrIro&feature=related

#11. Hot air balloons.
At night.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VkbJ6AbiT08
Unusual shapes.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PY0S5i2FmTY&playnext=1&list=PL2CC7A2C7DFCB576E

#12. The ISS as seen from the ground.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q8Wp-CuJksk
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HYPPYEm8490

and #12a. Space shuttle returning to earth.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0lAtZ9DbcKU
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7rfmb3uuLE8
and the external fuel tank reentry
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sejfpoWlfz0

#13. A small helium balloon on the loose!.
(could easily be mistaken for something else from 0:30 onwards)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YdLnFXmwovI

#14. Bad Hoaxes/Fakes
TBH there are hundreds of these so here's just a few.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0iZFTGJ2Jrg
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Own5smLPeus
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nyzZB3ELZzo&NR=1

If you have any other 'Not a UFO' then please add them, saying what they actually are.

Here is a pic I took last week. It is NOT - obviously - a pair of UFOs, but when I saw it I did think that to a 1950s person (without access to the internet, TV and all the other mass media we have today) it could very easily look like the traditional 1950s alien craft.

It was, infact, fighter jets.

No, it is actually a real flying toy thing, as you can tell from the unspectacular hard landing at the end of the vid. I believe it was a 'proof of concept' design by some uni types. No practical application for such a device beyond a plaything, but interesting all the same.

TBH when I looked at the pic I first noticed the streetlight and it took me a few moments to realise what it was, and then I thought "what are those people doing standing on the roof of that building", then I noticed the planes!

I thought it was the streetlamps first of all, too! Then, after reading the last posts (and clearly not having read McAvennie's!), I saw the two small fighters, and only now, as I was about to post this reply, have I noticed the people on the roof or the enormous 4-engined plane half-hidden behind the trees on the right!

This is also NOT a UFO.

http://photos2.fotosearch.com/bthumb/UNU/UNU136/u19245878.jpg

However, if we look at this example, it becomes less clear whether this a UFO or not.

http://wwwdelivery.superstock.com/WI/223/1560/PreviewComp/SuperStock_1560R-2032586.jpg

Similarly, there is something going on in this picture. but it's not a UFO. It could be an orb though.

Lastly, this alleged 'Crashed UFO' pic is a huge let-down once we take a closer look and carefully scrutinise the wreck site.

I thought it myself when I posted it but presumed the intellectual elite that peruses this forum would not need such basic signposts to what they were meant to be looking at Razz

Examples of drones and mini-crafts that could easily be mistaken for a 'flying saucer' :

Drone Sykorsky Cypher :

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tHC4t9JZH-o

Bombardier CL-227 :

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sxElYsOvu-8

German micro-drone :

Vectron RC mini-saucer :

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7NDSpNyMSs8&feature=related

MDARS :

Flying motorcycle :

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=anOxy8YkcrQ&feature=related

Small co-axial helicopter :

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yJqSt2fgpIc&feature=related

Small drone dirigible :

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9OvuVD_MqyM&feature=related

Numbers of such devices are increasing, resulting in more sources of confusion.

Nice. I'm particularly impressed with the 'cypher' (which I looked for but couldn't remember it's name) and the 'flying peanut', and that dirigible is sooo cute!

Whatever happened to the traditional "things that are not UFOs" from my youth? Do people still see the big three, by which I mean flocks of geese illuminated at night, lenticular clouds, and a car's headlights hitting a low level overcast sky? And if not, why not?

I reckon people still see these things but dont misidentify them as often as they used to.
Misidentification still happens though. The blimp at night, lit from the inside, is currently on another thread as an example.
