Sadly, you're more likely to catch one of the prominent local care-in-the-community cases, of which there is no shortage. I'd describe them here, but they're not really 'strange folk', just loons.
Best day to catch the brightly-coloured Edwardian Lady is a Friday, in the late afternoon. Go to Bar Citrus on Harpur Street, sit outside with a bottle of wine and wait. Pound to a pinch of pigshit, you'll see her on her travels (she seems to go from M&S to the Post Office on Dane Street, then back again). I love her, I think she's great. Certainly brightens my day!
(I think she works in the BT exchange building on the corner of Harpur Street and St Loyes Street, because I've seen her going in and out of that building, using the security keypad). |

Reading the latest few posts here has mad me realise that I've not seen any 'colourful characters' for a a while. I don't mean that there are any particular ones that I haven't seen in a while, but that there just aren't really any. This being East Anglia there are a fair share of odd people, but no one that would be worthy of a mention here.
So where have they all gone, or is it because I don't work in town anymore? |

A few months ago there was a, I don't know what the PC term is, so a mental patient on the bus with their, I don't know, handler? Anyway he started talking about the moon. And then he started saying "you can't build an escalator to the moon, its too far" then started laughing hysterically. He kept repeating "its too far!" "way too far to the moon" and the woman he was with kept saying "calm down" and she started looking nervous like it was his first time out or he was going to freak on the bus.
I am supportive of the mentally ill, but to be honest some of them really freak me out. |

I mentioned earlier how in the town I lived in before, there was a man who used to stand in the street every day with a sign claiming his childhood friend was the killer of Swedish prime minister Olof Palme. However I wasn't aware of just how deep the rabbit hole goes. It turns out this is no ordinary man, but the true heir to the Swedish throne. However there is a worldwide conspiracy to keep this from being known, and many events such as the 9/11 attacks were orchestrated merely to distract from this fact.

Oh, he's still around then? I saw him over 15 years ago on the streets of Jönköping... |

| In Brum we have an old man who is clearly living rough, but he spends his days sweeping the streets. Hes got an old broom and he's often seen sweeping up leaves and litter, or sometime just standing outside one of the council buildings just staring in. He seems to now have a rival, as I've seen another older gent, again he looks homeless, sweeping randomly around town. I wonder if they know of each other or if one inspired the other? |

Aww, poor old boy's probably hoping the council will recognise his street-clearing efforts and make him an honorary employee. |

I did think that maybe in better days he had worked as a road sweeper for the council and hes trying to re-live that time. |

I know the feeling. There was a time when I wrote speeches for Ministers. I now hang around the gates of the Dáil trying to press my latest efforts on passing politicians. |

Strange rather than a conman imho.

Philippe Jernnard could face futher charges
A Frenchman has been charged with impersonating a pilot after he was found in the cockpit of a plane due to take off in Philadelphia, police say.
Philippe Jernnard, from La Rochelle, France, was wearing a shirt with an Air France logo and a blazer with epaulets.
He was discovered in the jump seat behind the pilot on a US Airways plane on Wednesday evening, an officer said.
The FBI is investigating the incident and police said they expect federal charges may be filed.
Mr Jernnard, 61, faces state charges including criminal trespassing, tampering with records, impersonating a person privately employed, and providing false identification to law enforcement, Philadelphia police told the BBC.
When he was found in the cockpit, Mr Jernnard identified himself as a 747 pilot for Air France, authorities said.
They added the suspect, who had a ticket for the US Airways flight to Florida, could not provide proof of his credentials.
Officer Christine O'Brien says Mr Jernnard became argumentative and was escorted from the plane.
Mr Jernnard was also reportedly carrying a fake Air France crew identification card.
He is being held on $1m bail (£657,000), US media report. |
