Id rather be shocked at...I dunno, something like big environmental groups destroying habitats.

Or rogue paper markers.

This might make things more interesting, or it would if anyone had reported it:
http://www.annaraccoon.com/duncroftsavile/what-a-starr-freddie-starr/

Freddie Starr is suing the woman who started the whole Saville scandal in the first place for slander. I won't copy and paste the article, but I haven't visited that site for a while and note the writer seems a hell of a lot angrier now.

I never thought I'd say anything like this - but good on you Freddie Starr...if you're innocent of course.

But, as most of what's written about this subject seems to based on a belief that accusation is synonymous with guilt, I'm going to be contrary and go with that dreadfully old-fashioned assumption for a moment - although I suspect that in some quarters that probably makes me little better than a child molester myself.

The Anna Raccoon site makes fascinating reading on this, and is all the more interesting as the writer is, or claims to be, a former inmate at Duncroft School during the period in question and is adamant that none of the alleged behaviour by celebs took place. There also appears to be some sort of self-help group in the mix and, of course, the prospect of large sums of compensation for those who claim that they were victims of one or more of these celebrities.

To be honest, the whole thing is now looking something of a mess. I guess it was always going to be since it came out after Savile's death so he couldn't be confronted.

But I'm still concerned that we are only getting accusations against well-known entertainers - what about management and politicians? The 'apparently' related child care homes scandal seems to have gone quiet again as well.

According to "Anna Raccoon" the BBC journalist investigating the Duncroft "approved school" is the nephew of the former head and has some unspecified grudge against his aunt, who is now in her 90s but is compus mentus and denies any of these alleged events ever took place.

It does look like a complete mess and the involvement of self-help groups, motivational speakers and the like is an uncomfortable flashback to the SRA hysteria of the late 80s and early 90s. I don't expect we are ever going to get to the truth about these events.

Straight away, I would have taken that BBC journalist off the case because of a possible conflict of interests. Shame on the BBC for not doing that.

When I said accusations, sorry, I meant follow up on accusations. The entertainer related cases of course make immediate easy-to-follow newspaper stories with little effort on the journo's part.

The more complex issues regarding care homes, Broadmoor, management at the Beeb, involvement of politicians both in the care home stuff and in Savile's appointment at Broadmoor are less of an 'Hello' type news story, but I'd have thought overall of more significance (with apologies to the victims of those so far convicted) due to the conspiracy element. I'm deliberately being vague because I don't want to mention specific stories which might be quite untrue, but I expect those of you who have taken an interest in this know the allegations I mean. It's fine if the outcome is that all the stories are twaddle, but I'd like to see a proper open investigation come to that conclusion.

There is I believe a new enquiry into the North Wales care home, but deafening silence elsewhere.

Absolutely and this is where the investigations should be focused IMO.

Can't help but think that a lot of this is "fan fiction" with a legal twist. I used to post on a number of REM fan sites and the fan fiction stuff on there would curl your eyebrows.

Oh, that's an interesting perspective.

Im afraid I am a fanfic fan too, and a large percentage of it ranges from the disturbing to the `even the idea, -Im not clicking on that link` disturbing.

There are people out there with some frightening fantasies...if they ever acted upon them...

The mainstream British media are to be commended for throwing one guilty old corpse under the bus, along with a few (un-ennobled you'll notice) light entertainment celebrities.
That our oligarchical, judicial, political and financial system is oiled with unspeakable ritual, the likes of which are so fanciful sounding they may be deemed untrue, protects the true progenators of this institutional sickness.

Not strictly Savile or Yewtree related but I think two of yesterday's news stories probably fit here:

Quote:
Coronation Street's Le Vell cleared of child rape

Michael Le Vell told reporters that he was "delighted" by the verdict and thanked his family for their support

Coronation Street actor Michael Le Vell has been cleared of a number of child sex abuse charges, including rape.

Mr Le Vell, 48, who plays Kevin Webster in the soap, had denied 12 charges in total, telling the jury he was "fighting for his life".

His accuser, who cannot be named, claimed she was abused from the age of six until she was 14.

Speaking outside court, he thanked his family and ITV for their support. He is now expected to return to the soap.

'Two years of hell'

Mr Le Vell, of Hale, Greater Manchester, was tried at Manchester Crown Court under his real name Michael Turner.

The jury of eight women and four men took just over four hours to return verdicts of not guilty on all counts.

and then:

Quote:
Nigel Evans quits as deputy speaker amid sex charges

Conservative MP Nigel Evans has resigned as Commons Deputy Speaker, after being charged with offences including sexual assault, indecent assault and rape against seven men.

Mr Evans is accused of eight offences in total dating between 2002 and 2013, the Crown Prosecution Service said.

The 55-year-old MP for Ribble Valley denies any wrongdoing and pledged to continue to represent his constituents from the backbenches.

He said the claims were "incredulous".

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-24042797

On the basis of what has been reported on the Levell case - and of course it's quite possible that there was a lot more which could not be published - it seems quite incredible that something so weak could ever get to court. Some serious questions to be asked of the CPS I think,
