Dear Points if View,
Why, oh why, do I keep on getting this message. It's happening more and more. Is it just me or is it systemwide. Have a word with "them upstairs".
I'm on a Mac using Safari.
Thank you.

I get that message once in a while, and I typically see it only once (per day; on those days when I see it at all).
I also use a Mac and Safari.
I haven't seen this message with any increasing frequency lately, but I have noticed an increase in simple 'non-response' (failure to load; stalling after partial loading) with no error message being given. |

Don't worry, it happens to me as well, I have no clue what it's all in aid of, and I am upstairs. Just refresh once or twice and all will be as it should be.
Or should be.. |

It's definitely the hosting side of things and nothing to do with your individual computers - there are several things that plug together to make the forums work, two biggies being PHP (the scripting language which 'builds' the pages you see) and the database (likely MySQL, which stores the information such as what a post says, who posted it and when, which topic it belongs in, what time that topic was posted, which board it belongs in, etc. etc.)
The error is saying that the PHP side of things wasn't able to talk to the database side of things - the reasons could be numerous, but the intermittent nature suggests that it's a problem related to the database temporarily blocking new connections from PHP due to there being too many open connections already - this would be especially likely if there are other Dennis sites also using the same server for their own databases.
It's also possible that the database is running on a server that isn't up to the job and is low on resources (e.g. RAM or disk space) and the connections are prevented until those resources are freed up by other connections closing. |
