This is a long shot, but does anyone remember a discussion programme, maybe on Channel 4, which in one episode featured two white witches? They claimed to have magic powers which they didn't demonstrate, but also had enemies, one of whom had bent and twisted a lamppost outside the couple's home as a warning of some kind, or a show of strength.

That last bit stuck with me, but I've never been able to find anything about it since it was so long ago, maybe late eighties, early nineties. Does this ring any bells with anyone? (Like a lamppost maintenance worker called out untangle a lamppost).

That sounds about the right time frame for the 'After Dark' discussion show on C4, although I don't recall the lamp post twisting.

I don't know if it was After Dark, I never made a point of watching that, it was more like Jon Ronson's discussion show, but I can't recall who presented it.

As to why they didn't demosntrate their powers, er, can't recall that either. Maybe they couldn't fit a lamppost in the studio?

Thanks for the suggestions, but it was a studio-based show, and I wouldn't have watched James Whale. I'm beginning to think it might have been a programme on Scottish TV (now STV) which would make it incredibly obscure, but basically the presenter would invite people with paranormal attachments in for a chat.

Who that presenter was, or the name of the show, has been lost in the mists of time. Well, I can't remember it anyway. It's not on YouTube, needless to say.

It wasn't the one that had the dude from The Cassandra Complex in it, was it?

I seem to recall there being something in that one involving the alleged use of magic to cause a car accident or catastrophic breakdown, or something similar.

I don't think so, I don't recognise that, though the gist of the stories they were telling was some kind of battle of intimidation going on using witches' magic. Sort of Harry Potter, but "real". Was J.K.R. watching that night?

Open to Question was on the BBC, the programme I saw was on STV. Good find, though, but it was a younger couple I was watching. It would be excellent if they subsequently became famous, but I'm doubtful.

I have a feeling I read about something like that in the Daily Mail back in the late Eighties, and possibly watched something related to it on the regional BBC news - maybe with John Stapleton? It would have been South Today, or its equivalent: Once Nationwide was wound up, they replaced it with programmes that contained a frothy mix of local news and duck-on-a-skateboard type stories

No, I've never seen The Omega Factor, and that was fictional rather than a "magazine"-type programme as what I'm thinking of was. Thanks anyway.
