Hi guys, first time poster and it's a pleasure to make your acquaintance. I'm a stand-up comic and a casual cryptozoology fan and I've been writing a lighthearted blog on the topic for a little while now; as this is the spiritual home of the all things cryptid I thought I'd post it here to see what you think. All comments and suggestions are welcome - the blog's meant to be a companion piece to the Edinbugh show I eventually want to do live. Hope you enjoy it!

Routine: write it, take out all the expletives, test it. If it's still funny, you have good material: if it isn't, you haven't. After editing, reapply the swearing (sparingly) for emphasis, but remember inventive/innovative expletives always seem funnier in writing than spoken. You'll notice that Internet expressions such as 'horse-cock-chokingly painful' don't see much use in stand-up, blue or otherwise.

Sparingly. Definitely.

Thanks for the feedback. I'm not sure why that particular expression is being quoted here, as it's not one that appears anywhere in the blog, but I take your point about the excessive swearing being unnecessary and I'll keep it in mind. I'm not planning on the live show being identical to the blog anyway - you're right about there being a world of difference between an amusing passage online and what works in a live environment.

Apologies for the tardiness of my response by the way, for some reason I kept getting bumped back to the registration page when I tried to reply for quite a while. Seems to be a problem that's sorted itself out now anyway.

I'm planning on posting a new blog every Monday and there's now a couple more online; again, I'd gladly welcome any feedback from people on here, whatever it may be.

Oh, and apologies for initially posting this in the wrong forum.

Sorry not to have been clear. The example was one I pulled out of thin air as the kind of thing I meant, not one of your examples. Will check in and take a look at the blog periodically.

Good luck.

Ah ok, I get you now. Thanks for the good luck.

Just as a quick etiquette question for the mods as each forum's different and I don't want to come across as a spammer, am I alright with returning to this thread to link to the updates as I make them? Pretty much exactly like this, shameless bastard that I am:

I've moved this thread over to, Fortean Culture. It's always nice when somebody with something to promote actually engages with other members, gives us regular updates and doesn't just spam and run.

Keep up the good work.

Thanks, I appreciate that. It was the FT that got me interested in this sort of thing in the first place and it's always a great source to read through so the last thing I wanted to do was annoy the people with similar interests! I also appreciate all the feedback and if anyone wants to suggest a cryptid they'd like me to write about, I'm very open to that as well.

I'm busy this week so to get it out the way, the blog's a little earlier than usual:

Thanks very much, I'm glad you're enjoying it!

Apologies for the delay on this week's blog, it's been hot and I've been lazy.

Ditto for this week, my apologies. Normal Monday service will resume from next week, honest.
