I could not find anything about this on the forum itself. If I missed some instruction page then I would appreciate a link.

I would like to quote some forum posts on my non commercial weblog but I'm not sure if that's allowed. I could not find any clear guidelines about who owns the copyright to the forum posts. The original author? Or the Fortean Times?

Would it be fair to treat the posts as Creative Commons - Attribution Non-Commercial (CC BY-NC)?

Any guidance is welcome.

My weblog is this one: http://uair01.blogspot.nl/

If it helps, you can quote any drivel I've posted to your heart's content. Laughing

Me too! My drivel's just as good as hers! (When I'm not quoting someone else, of course!)

Erm...

I suppose the original posters give permission for Fortean Times to publish what they've written, but as FT is a commercial entity, you'd need to ask them if you wished to quote anything from their website.

Good question: I'll kick it upstairs for clarification.

Can't imagine you'll turn up many gems from me, but you're welcome to all you can eat.

Edit: With Rynner, Escargot, Carlos and me, you already have 50,519 posts (and rising) to choose from!

I have no idea, to be honest, so I've asked the good Doctor for clarification.

Nice of you to ask first, most people wouldn't bother. I've never heard of a copyright claim for copy and pasting quotes on the internet.

None of us moderators are exactly sure what the situation is, at the moment, but it's very Fortean to cut 'n' paste.

Rule of thumb? Door de vingers, denk ik.

Voor mij als je iets van mij wil gebruiken gaat alles goed. Wink

Doctor Sutton, who doesn't think there's any problem with quoting forum posts. So quote away (but do please cite it where appropriate.)
