Earlier this year, during a then rare spell of good weather, I was standing at my back door admiring the blue sky after hanging out washing. An object in the sky caught my eye; at first I took it to be an approaching bird as it came into view over a large tree in our garden. It seemed to be flying at only twice the height of my house and looked to be about 8 inches in length. It was white, roughly egg- shaped, although more like the shape of a "tic-tac" mint, if you know what I mean. I was facing north west and it travelled overhead west to east, in an absolutely dead straight line, being in view for about 10 seconds until it passed over my house roof. There was a district blurring at the front of the object, as if something was rotating extremely quickly, almost like a propeller, although it was completely silent.
As it moved steadily overhead, I had time to discount it being a bird, insect or balloon. I have no idea what it might have been and wondered if anyone else had ever seen anything similar? |

| Interesting story! I haven't seen anything exactly like that, but I have seen some strange things that it reminds me of. Working in an office building near the airport it's not at all unusual to look up and see airplanes flying low overhead. So when I walked over to the window one day to take a breather, some motion straight above me in the sky caught my attention and I looked up to see what I at first assumed was an airplane climbing out of IAH. This thing resembled an airplane fuselage, but it had no wings, no tail, no engines and no markings. It was bright white traveling north at about 3,000' altitude. It behaved like an airplane would. It looked to be traveling about the same speed an airplane would be traveling at that stage of flight. I had a very good look at it and it was definitely NOT an airplane. It continued flying to the north and I watched as it faded away in the distance. The last I saw of it, it looked like a star in the daytime sky, then it was no longer visible to me. I didn't notice anything blurry on it. Just a long white cylindrical shape and tapered at the ends like a cigar or lozenge. Except for the size difference, it sounds similar to what you described. |

I used to see those lozenge things regularly in the 80's when I was younger - in fact I've seen loads of them. The used to fly over slowly at high altitude, usually in the summer and would leave no contrail or anything. Once time, we had the opportunity to look at one through some binoculars and I remember that it looked like a double lozenge joined tightly together. It was completely white and had no wings or markings. We all assumed at the time that they were weather balloons and the only time that I have seen something similar since then was last summer when I was on Brighton beach - a white object with no visible wings flying from South to North.
I often think about them and have tried to do look online to see if anybody else saw or reported them but I found very little. Interesting. |

| I've since seen photographs on line that show things in the sky very similar to what I watched fly over Houston. Strange. |
