Is there anyone on the planet who has never seen a Rocky movie? They are on TV every weekend, so it seems, and have been sold to every channel that shows films here in the UK. Even if you haven't deliberately sat down to watch one, you've probably seen one by movie osmosis.
The reason I ask is this:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rocky_(film_series)
| Quote: | | On July 24, 2013, it was announced that MGM has offered Fruitvale Station director Ryan Coogler to direct a spinoff of Rocky. The film will focus on a man following in the footsteps of his grandfather, Apollo Creed, and getting a mentor in the now-retired Rocky Balboa. Michael B. Jordan has been offered the role of Creed's grandson, and Stallone will reprise his character of Rocky, in a script co-written by Coogler and Aaron Covington. |
There's going to be yet another one! TV schedulers across the globe must be rejoicing.
So what's your favourite Rocky movie? Oh, and happy birthday Paulie. |

I haven't seen any of them but I do know that Dolph Lungren was in one, and Mr T. And the theme song to one was "Eye of the Tiger." But that's all I know.
Rocky wins doesn't he? |

| You might not have seen one all the way through, but I bet it feels as if you have. Dolph is in the ridiculous Rocky IV ("You vill lose!") and Mr. T is in the no less ridiculous Rocky III ("I pity the fool!") with the most overplayed song known to man. Rocky usually wins, but there are two where he doesn't. Won't spoil it. |

| The first Rocky film is a genuinely good film, but all the others descend (well, fail to ascend beyond) cliched and predictable nonsense. |

Beat me to it - Rocky is a good movie. It got three Oscars, and out-grossed A Star Is Born and The Omen (and everything else that year.) Rocky is a downbeat, by turns touching and brutal film that feels very authentic - it accurately portrays the actual grind of boxing training, hours and hours of slog in the cold early morning dark and drizzle.
The sequels set about eroding the precedent the first one set, getting more and more glib and jingoistic, though I did see no 6, Rocky Balboa, not long ago and it was rather better than nos 2 to 5, having reconnected with its roots a bit. It has Raging Bull overtones, and Stallone is a lot more subtle; it's a good reminder that he can actually act (if you ever doubt it, watch Cop Land: he's utterly brilliant in that, up against De Niro and Keitel.) |

I've never sat through a whole one but have probably seen half of Rocky (I) and 10 minutes of the one where he fights the Commie Russian.
Youre right about Cop Land - great flick. |

My favourites, in order:-
- Rocky
- Rocky Balboa
- Rocky II
- Rocky V (for the Don King caricature)
- Rocky III (but hey, it's got Mr T in it, so it's not all bad)
Rocky IV is an absolute disgrace, however. A piece of cold-war propaganda that even North Korea would baulk at. |

Can I just say that I would have actually never seen a single Rocky movie if my parents hadn't made me take my neighbours 9 year old son to see a triple bill of Rocky I-III cira 1985.
I'm just pointing out that I was under orders and not technically consenting. |

"If we can change, you can change, let's do some changin'!!!!" Or something like that. Here's the cult Finnish director Aki Kaurismaki's reaction to that film:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fv3U_bB_-jE
Or, short version, Aki thinks Stallone is an "asshole".
Wasn't there supposed to be a Rocky vs Raging Bull movie out soon? That is, Stallone and De Niro as ageing pugilists entering the ring one last time to square off against each other? I envisage a very slow montage for this one. |

Although they're part of the same series, there's quite a leap from Rocky punching sides of beef to Rocky wrestling with Hulk Hogan. |
