Back in 1993, spouse and I moved from Shropshire to Sussex with our 19 month old daughter and 6 week old son. Our new home was a modern ground floor flat, privately rented.
I was very unhappy, suffering with post natal depression and missing the support of my friends and family badly. I knew no one where we had moved to and spouse was working from 8am to 6pm every week day. I sometimes felt a bit "creeped out" in the hall of the flat and put it down to being in a strange place and being at home full time after working.
The door into the lounge was made of frosted glass and sometimes when I was sitting on the sofa I would see someone/thing flit past the door in the hall. I tried to put this down to n optical illusion caused by the rippled glass but I was badly frightened when I was there alone, the children asleep and it happened.
Sometimes spouse saw it too, he said "I could have sworn someone walked past the door then" one evening and we were both very uneasy!
Sometimes the kettle would switch itself on and I had a constant feeling of being watched.
While I know there are probably explanations for these things, I did wonder years later whether it was my strong emotional state causing this? I was incredibly unhappy and did a lot of distraught weeping while we lived there, and spouse and I used to argue so badly we almost split up.
Thank goodness we moved back and it was all ok.
I do wonder what it was like there for the tenants who came after us. Did they hear ghostly weeping of a despairing post-natal woman? Shocked

I think it is very interesting, Grimnebulin. Often 'every-day' stories, rather than spectacular 'supernatural' ones affect me more. I have also wondered at strong emotions maybe being imprinted on places we live, and have wondered if houses I lived in when going through a bad period then record that energy, resulting in subsequent inhabitants picking up on that, being affected, and adding their own, so that certain quite normal places (as opposed to historic houses, castles etc) end up feeling unpleasant from an accumulation of sadness, anger, fear etc.

One council house I lived in for a year aged ten was the brightest house I've ever personally stayed in, in that its windows were large, and in the living room at both ends, so that the house should have been light. It was also quite spacious, as some older council houses are. But it felt there was a brown-out through the house. It was murky, deeply unpleasant. My parents fought and argued. Horrible, though not 'paranormal' things happened there. I was ill every month with tonsillitis, and a really bad dose of flu. I do wonder if we added our own bad vibes to that place, so I understand what you are saying.

The shadows crossing the glass door are less easy to explain. I really do not like those kind of doors, as you cannot see clearly, only enough to see a shape passing by. Sad

Thanks Fanari, that's exactly what I was getting at. I was more unhappy in that flat than I've ever been in my life, I really felt like I was exuding waves of misery and fear!
I don't like frosted glass doors either, have found them creepy since I was a kid.

My best friend has recounted to me a story of a flat he shared with another which had a wall in the living room which was half glass, the other side of which was the hall leading to the front door.

I recall the glass type he mentioned is called "tulip glass" due to the pattern that repeats through it.

He claims that one night both he and his flat mate witnessed someone walk the length of the hall on the other side of the glass though they were the only two in the flat at the time.

I'm not a fan of distorted "tulip" glass either.

"grimnebulin" story reminded me of my friend's story.

Oh grimnebulin, that's such a sad story. I was pleased to see at the end that you moved home and that period of your life was over. Thank you for telling it (I was one of the ones who asked you to post)

My living room door is frosted glass and I have never given it a moment's thought... until now! Personally I always think that type of haunting is in the place, not in the person. I've had little bits of poltergiesty stuff happen to me, and I think that IS me centered (seems to have followed me around!) But I've had periods of terrible stress and unhappiness whilst living in this house and the house has never reflected it back to me in the type of haunting described here. Although, come to think of it, I don't like the room that was once the living room and is now the dining room much! And I can't give an explanation as to why. It's got a lovely fireplace and stuff.

Thanks for your comment Scribbles, yes I was so glad to move back. Sorry to hear about your stress and unhappiness, hope things are better for you now.
I have another creepy experience from when I was a kid of 10 but I'm dithering a bit about posting it as writing it down made me feel uneasy and scared all over again! Rolling Eyes
