I'm assuming this to be an Urban Legend - it certainly has the usual traits. It's a story my wife told me and (of course) involves a friend of one of her friends...
This friend is a woman who has a son with Down Syndrome. Hegenerallytakes care of himself - he's pretty independent - and she goes out to work. One afternoon he called her at work: "Mum, you've got to come home - I've caught a Hobbit." She's busy and he often rings up with flights of imagination so she tells him that she'll be home soon and she'll sort it out then. Reluctantly he ends the call.
Fifteen minutes later the phone rings again: "Mum, come home, I've caught a hobbit." Agains she tells him she'll be back home and she ends the call.
Another fifteen minutes later another call: "Mum, come home - I've caught a Hobbit - and the Police are here." This time she takes notice and goes straight home.
The explanation follows that a local woman, who is apparently a dwarf, was delivering Avon and knocked on the door. taking his chance the young lad grabs her and bundles her under the stairs, from where she calls the police and tells them she has been kidnapped. |

Slightly off topic but Ronnor's UL was, as I recall, a reality last year. There was a story of three guys on a night out who did indeed bring a penguin home with them. They stole it from Sea World Australia. As far as I can remember the penguin was returned. |
