Recent announcement made, of a planned film set in J.K. Rowling’s Potterverse – combination of Warner Brothers, and JKR allegedly doing the screenplay – possibly the first of many. Seen as set in the Potterverse, but circa 1918, and according to Rowling, “not a prequel”. Its main character is to be Newt Scamander, the wizarding world’s ace zoologist – its Darwin / Wallace / Heuvelmans figure – “author” of the (in-the-real-world-published) slim volume, “Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them”.

This is enough to get me – a cryptozoology fan – keen. Feel that I would greatly wish for the film to truly take off and happen. My enthusiasm for the prospective film is intensified by Potterverse lore vouchsafed by the author, to the effect that my favourite character in the books, Luna (mad cryptozoologist and daughter of a mad cryptozoologist) ends up marrying Newt Scamander’s grandson – whereby engendering a further generation of bonkers cryptozoologists...

Will have difficulty waiting for the film to come about and be distributed. I just hope that it may feature in some way or shape, however peripheral, Luna and her father’s above-all favourite cryptid, the Crumple-Horned Snorkack.
