Someone recently posted something on the positioning of clock hands in advertising. As I used to work in advertising, I could confirm that the hands were indeed set around 10 to 2 or 10 past 10 to create happy, smiley clock faces and a more positive reaction from the viewer.
So watching the excellent Dave Gorman (Life is Goodish) last night was something of a revelation in that the rule is so ingrained it's become the norm for at least one phone company to use 10:08 digitally in their photos.
Just type htc into google images and you'll see what I mean. |

I have a clock where the hands run backwards for the last hour or so before the batteries run out.
It is so bewildering that I have a habit of putting old batteries in it now just to enjoy what happens.
It also explains why I am often later for appointments. |

I recall discussing this with friends one evening. My friend didn't believe my so we looked at the Argos catalogue online. We also notice that digital clocks show 10.08 too. |
