Lucid dreaming is the easiest. I don't consider it to be a psi ability. I've been doing it since I was about 5 years when I had a nightmare, didn't like the outcome, and decided I was going back to do it right. Of course, I was an incredibly restless sleeper so maybe that helped- night terrors, sleepwalking, and waking up in the wee hours to wander the house and look out the windows while everything was dark and peaceful. My brain just doesn't seem to be wired for a deep and dreamless sleep.
For me, lucid dreaming involves a series of course corrections. Ask a question of a dream figure, look at something more closely, go in a different direction. If I push or pull too hard, I'll come right out into wakefullness. It's less like writing a story from scratch and more like playing an RPG.
And I do agree about the precognitive nature of dreams. I've had precognitive dreams in incredible detail but not about anything important (that I remember). It's very random and not at all helpful. Instead of feeling powerfully prescient, I feel like "Huh, thought that was just one of those weird but vivid dreams but there's the transvestite in the Red Wings jersey arguing about the Chicago Cubs." Maybe it's just that time isn't completely linear, and when we dream, we might accidentally dip our toe into a random current that's flowing a little faster than the one we're in. |

I decided to try a meet your Spirit Guide one. Ran it last thing and did as it said, like relaxing in stages from my toes upward and so on, but as usual I fell asleep. Had the most awful sleep, with nightmares.
As if that wasn't silly enough, I tried it twice more and had the nightmares both times.
Nothing specific, just a feeling of people walking in and out of my room and standing round my bed, and lots of murmuring voices.
Not trying that again!
Wonder what was in it to give that effect? Reminded me a bit of the scene in M.R. James' Casting The Runes, where the magic lantern show features a monster so frightening that none of the children slept that night and one of the fathers said it gave him one of the worst nightmares he'd ever had! |
