We have gas now but not having a big family to feed any more, I hardly ever bake. It's just not worth the trouble.

(Whereas of course, with a houseful of children I'd be baking all day and then the lot'd be gone by next evening, so I'd complain that THAT was a waste of time too! Laughing )

I found the electric oven better for 'dry' baking like biscuits and sponges though.

I found a gas hob and electric fan assisted oven to be the best combination in the kitchen. I am now baking far more now our kids have flown the coop for the very reason that stuff lasts more than half a day

Wish I had gas too.
A Indian friend of mine taught me a bit of Indian cooking, and I found that there were some things that really required an open flame.
That friend now lives in a village where there is no gas from the grid, so they use bottled natural gas.
