I bought these super thick socks a couple of months ago, tbh the tag was kind of hiding inside and as I bought a couple of pairs and some other stuff at the same time, it wasn't until I came to try and wear them a week back that I realised the shop assistant hadn't removed the security tag.

But how do you get one off without destroying the sock?

I'm guessing it must have been deactivated as I didn;t set off any alarms on the way out, only being a cautious soul, I can't help thinking that as I no longer have the receipt, if I take these back into the store there's a certain chance the shop staff will seize them or just think I'm trying to steal them.

So does anyone know a way to get these things off? Confused

Buy another pair, then go back to the shop with your current pair (remembering the receipt of course).

Edit: What's that on the table? A vibrator?????

That might work.

Although I only bought them before 'cos they were half price.

And I'd have to hope there isn't a RFID with date info on in the tag or something... that might turn rather ugly if I showed up with a receipt that could be shown not to match the product.

No, it's a dog toy, my friend must have left it here.

They'll want the tag back because it's worth money.
I think they'll be only too happy to have it back, and probably won't give you a hard time.

This happened to my sister a while ago, and they just seemed pleased to have it back.

Depends on the store and the people working there, I guess.

Yes, I can see the dog, sitting right there.

The dog.

There must be a pervertable use for a sock with a plastic nipple on it.

What happens to those things if you tamper with them? No doubt, a facefull of green dye would make the experience memorable, if not necessarily pleasant.

Just wondering . . . Confused

Various removal methods're described on t'internet. If the tag has ink inside it might pop and ruin the socks so you'd need to be careful. Techy advises holding the flat round end against a strong magnet so it pops apart.

If this problem happened to me I'd certainly take the socks back but would consider ringing the shop before visiting, to tell them what's happened and ask them to remove the tags. That way I'd know what sort of reception to expect.

I don't think I'd be arrested for shoplifting even without a receipt as nobody would have any evidence that I'd stolen anything except for the presence of the tags, and that wouldn't stand up in court. The shop would need to produce something solid like CCTV pictures or a store detective's eyewitness account of a theft and to be able to state exactly when I stole the socks. Most shoplifters are caught redhanded.

However, one wonders if some shop managers might try to have the sock-returner arrested just to try it on, in the hope of intimidating them into a confession.

I'd like to take the socks back myself. I'd enjoy any confrontation over it, as one of my pet peeves is being treated as a potential criminal instead of a valued customer. Evil or Very Mad

They came from a huge JJB type sports shop in Leeds, it's so rife for theft that pretty much every time I'm in there I will hear one of the shop staff radio security about someone making off with something.

And with no ill will meant to the till staff, they're all very young and rushed off their feet at the best of times, which might not be ideal circumstances for having what one might consider a reasonable discussion.

Perhaps I'll wait until the christmas rush is off.

Brute force. A pair of heavy duty pliers helps a lot. Took me ten minutes, thereabouts.

Oh that. There's no way. May as well just throw the lot in the sea and wait for the spike to rust away.
