I was looking through www.librarything.com and came across a listing of comedian Jackie Gleason's library at the time of his death. I knew he had interests in UFOlogy but aside from the odd book on entertainment his library consisted of book son "witchcraft, folklore, extrasensory perception (ESP), unidentified flying objects (UFOs), reincarnation, mysticism, spiritualism, mental telepathy, the occult, ghosts, clairvoyance, cosmology, demons, hypnosis, life after death, mediums, psychical research, voodooism, and others."

That site is endlessly fascinating, hadn't seen it before but can foresee many happy hours' browsing ahead. Very Happy

Gleeson's library list looks a bit like my Kindle contents. It's full of weird stuff like that.

That's quite a collection. I seem to recall he named his house "The Mothership".

Fascinating stuff. They revived The Honeymooners as a late-night strand on BBC2 in the 1980s, IIRC. I enjoyed it because it seemed like going upstream to the source of so many sitcoms. Later, I would read of Gleason, celebrity wife-beater and be unclear about whether this referred to his onscreen character or off.

He was certainly a force-of-nature type presence in The Hustler - a must-see picture, in case you haven't!

Gleason's interest in Forteana had somehow passed me by, though it is documented on his Wikipedia page. Thanks for alerting me! Smile
