There was another one at 0925 BST this morning. I felt it but thought at the time it was just a big lorry going past - apparently the epicentre is rising closer to the surface.

Very ominous!
Something better left buried and forgotten slowly wakes in the depths etc ....
That is not dead which only dreaming lies ....
Have you seen the comments from people on the BBc website btw?
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/talking_point/2346799.stm
lots of people's experiences of the "quakes" along the lines of "I was just making a cup of tea when ...." and more than a few hysterical "why aren't we being told what to do in the event of a big one?!" or "I was so terrified when my desk shook slightly that I almost died" (and I thought I had anxiety problems!) ... but my favourite has to be
| Quote: | | I just felt today's tremor at 13.30hrs whilst sat at my desk in the City Centre. The desks at the top end of the office all slid to the other end - I looked outside and saw a huge fissure just off Portland Street and people starting to fall inside it. It was just then a T-Rex came out of the hole and caused me to spill my coffee over my keyboard. |
heh heh |

Good for you (on just about all counts) dot ... you'll no doubt avoid the impending apocalypse currently stalking Manchester out there.
I'm currently planning (ie. desperately trying to save up for) a six month stint in India in a year or so .... should India (and Manchester ..... and indeed Lizard23! ..... ) still be gracing the face of the earth at that time. |

Being an M21 dweller, i've been feeling all these "tremors" for the last few days, and i am quite excited about the million-to-one shot that we are about to experience "the big one".
Spooky really, as i am reading a novel, "decipher", at the mo (by the geezer that wrote and then screenplayed the 51st State film that came out recently) and it's chock full of Forteana, including a bit about the Sun sending out Gravity Waves and hence creating a world wide catastrophe (as has been evinced by real study of the geological record - the catastrophe that is, not the gravity wave bit).
The year this book as set i hear you ask? - 2012. that means we've got a decade to put our affairs in order;)
On another tip, I've got a customer who strapped dark fibre between two city centre locations and there is a shedload of tunnels down there. Apparently it makes the Roman catacombs look like a phonebox. |

From the Metro today:
| Quote: | Quake 19 cracks road
A crack appeared in a motorway spur road yesterday as Manchester was hit by its 19th earthquake.
The fissure, acros the A6144(M) Carrington Spur, west of the city, forced the closure of a mile-long stretch of the M60. Police said damage resulted from the wave of tremors which have hit the area since Monday. |
Looks like its getting serious. I wonder how long it'll be until one of t'old mills rattles itself to the ground? |

BGS have finally updated their site to include all of the 'quakes so far:
http://www.earthquakes.bgs.ac.uk/recbrit.html
The biggest one to date was 3.9 - but as you can see we're having a swarm of 'em - nearly 40 in the last 5 days! |

Another quite pronounced shake, just as I was logging on at
around 4:48 pm.
One or two were a novelty but I really don't like this at all. |

Come on Jimbo, Let's not let all those crazy newage Californians and ring-of-fire dwellers keep all the good stuff for themselves.
I for one am petioning Premises Management @ CIS to let me spend the weekend on top of their tower:p |

Hope I wasn't mean in my last post. Didn't mean to be. Really, no need to worry until they get MUCH bigger. If you continue to have them regularly in your part of the world you'll get very used to them.
I once would not even get up out of bed during a fairly big quake. I was very tired, and the bed rocking back and forth didn't even frighten me. I remember thinking if things start falling off the wall I'll get up and run for cover. Nothing did, and the rocking finally stopped, so I just went back to sleep.
But I know they can be quite unsettling. The fricken earth is moving under your feet for pity sake! And sometimes you can see the earth actually roll with undulations, and big windows of safety-glass bend and ripple like a flag in the wind! Scary stuff!
Just remember people all over the world have small quakes every day, and the vast majority of the planet's surface never has any really serious ones. Although quakes can happen anywhere, in your part of the world I don't think anyone is predicting a big one.

7:39 and another fairly violent shock.
Odd how consecutive shocks seem to come at the same minutes past the
hour? |
