Wow! just imagine how much time that would save if everyone had one of those:rofl:

why does that whole thing about men being jealous of dogs come to mind?

(dogs can lick their own genitalia, for anyone who is puzzled)

perhaps we wandered off thread because your post didn't contain enough details? More links to how they were expected to get a sample would have been rather rivetting. In a horrifyingly sick way.

There was a bit in Victor Lewis Smith's column in Private Eye ages ago. I'll see if I can find it, but the gist was the techniques zoo keepers have of acquiring semen samples off their beasts.

Apparently you have to be careful of polar bears cos of the sudden temperature change in their privates, and chimpanzees require a hug afterwards. Elephants take two men to, um, sort out, and are quite difficult (believe it or not!).

There is also the danger that animals get too used to their human hand-jobs, and start to shun the attention of their own species. (So that's why we evolved opposable thumbs...)

There's also a bit in 'Last Chance to See' by Douglas Adams, where a rare Mauritian bird (I forget which one) can only have its precious seed harvested because it has a habit of shagging one of its keepers hats, which is worn around the bird's enclosure and the semen collected in the brim.

Bloody hell, I know too much about this...
