But it clearly is a fake. Thanks for the Charlie White links - quite a Fortean artist! I wonder if he was an influence on Peter Jackson?
Oh yeah, and i *knew* there was an album cover that the orcs with chains through their faces in PJ's LOTR reminded me of... |

| Yes, without a shadow of a doubt it's a digitally manipulated image, "'shop"ped or otherwise. Having done many photo manips myself, it's clear that the colours on the head are simple background samples (to maintain ambience) and the boy on the right and his stick are both additions to the original photo. It's a nice attempt, but pretty blatant digital trickery. |

When I saw the chupa head I was instantly struck by the similarities.
I'm sure it's been discussed a time or two somewhere on the Fortean Times boards, but I don't have the time to look for any specific threads at the moment. You should be able to see the picture here:

Apparently it's appeared in a few publications and was thought by some to be an authentic photograph of some sort of "demon," hopping along the walls of a cave (helped along by a wild story or two). I'll admit, the image is quite striking, and I was even taken in by it's magic for a time (In fact I used to have a picture of it sitting on my desk!) but it's supposed to have turned out to be nothing but a carving in some sort of English attraction called "Crystal Caves," or something along those lines, in Cheddar. |

| I saw a chupacabra's corpse once at the county fair, as a matter of fact. This was no Minnesota Iceman, though; it was a piece of shit. The thing was part of an "animal freak show" that included a live four-legged duck, some odd fish passed off as mermen, and a bunch of pig embryos floating around in jars. The chupacabra was the main attraction, and lay in the middle of a large crate padded with hay. My imagination raced, thinking maybe, just MAYBE somebody had gotten lucky and actually killed one of the little devils. Sadly, all I got was a crude, fiberglass skeleton glued to the bottom of the crate with some rubber "intestines" pouring out. Unfortunate that I didn't have my camera, or else I could post it on Art Bell's website with all the other "authentic" chupa remains |
