Yesterday my husband got a DVD from Netflix (a DVD rental service) and I got a package from a friend of mine who works at a magazine that gets lots of review books, and raids the trash for them to send them to friends who might be interested.

The Netflix disc was Downton Abbey II.

The book package contained Below Stairs: The Classic Kitchen Maid's Memoir that Inspired Upstairs, Downstairs and Downton Abbey, by Margaret Powell.

There are coincidences between the plots of Downton Abbey and the fillum just out, Summer in February, discussed in this article:
Dan Stevens finds Summer in February after Downton
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-22840234

Now I never watched the TV series, and I haven't been to the cinema for decades, but I found this interesting:
Quote:
"We lived in the hotel where they all lived, we drank in the pub that they drank in - The Wink, an extraordinary place," recalls Stevens.

"The whole community down there has always attracted some eccentric types, some of whom still live down there. Living in that community really infused the film.
"It felt like a magical experience going down to Cornwall and bringing this little hidden bubble of history to life."

...because I have a photo of the Wink on my recently published website!

Last night I had a dream about a friend of my other half. Me and her were in a saddlers/tanners asking them to make us leather corsets. This morning I put it as my facebook status and she's replies that she has been looking for corsets that night!

Recently I've been using an AIS website ( http://www.marinetraffic.com/ais/default.aspx ) to track yachts and other vessels in my local waters. I reported elsewhere that today I watched the Scillonian berth in the main harbour on Scilly.

Just now I went to the local BBC news, and the top story is from Scilly:

Isles of Scilly harbour death: Man falls from yacht mast Sad

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-cornwall-22950121

The yacht in question, the Windrose, is still at the quayside - I'd left that view on because I was waiting to see the Scillonian sail again...

EDIT: There are two photos of the yacht on marinetraffic - the latest was taken in Scilly, yesterday.
http://www.marinetraffic.com/ais/showallphotos.aspx?mmsi=244630312

That was taken at around low water, presumably a few hours before the accident.

Since my post above, the Windrose has disappeared from the quay on the AIS screen, but zooming out shows it's now in the anchorage. Presumably the harbour staff moved it, which must mean the police investigation is over for now.

After the mystery of the man killed on a yacht on Scilly (no updates to the story so far), marinetraffic.com has picked up a lifeboat shout.

It seems the Penlee LB (based in Newlyn) is escorting a fishing boat slowly back to harbour from a position about 4 miles SE of Porthcurno. The FV is the Imogen 2. Nothing on the local news websites about this so far.

Now the Imogen 2 is doing over 7 kn. back towards Newlyn, but the Lifeboat still seems to be searching for something, now heading very slowly west, after a leg to the east.

At least it's calm out there tonight.

The lifeboat has now shot off back to the north, passing the Imogen 2 en route.

I say the LB, but it now becomes clear there were two LBs involved - the other is heading east to the Lizard!

I look forward to learning what all this was about!

The second LB was the Lizard LB, and it has now returned to station, on the east side of the Lizard.

(I bet the crew were glad it's calm, as there can be a heck of a tide-race off the Lizard. But also luckily, it's only neap tides, so they'll have had a fairly easy ride.)

That was a more exciting and interesting day than I expected a computerised website would bring me! Beats 'Reality' TV! Cool

I've been searching for more news on last night's incident involving two lifeboats, but cannot find anything. Even the RNLI website is not very up-to-date.

But I did find some pics of Scilly, relating to the Windrose death:
http://aroundperranuthnoe.blogspot.co.uk/

Apparently the Windrose has now been taken to Newlyn, which marinetraffic.com confirms.

Both local paper websites now report LB activity last night, eg:
http://www.thisiscornwall.co.uk/Lifeboat-crews-rescue-boat-man-dog/story-19328083-detail/story.html#axzz2WZxn3sVK

..but neither of those incidents are what I 'watched'! Very odd.
