This is an interesting little book, with all sorts of “secret” places in the USA arranged alphabetically be state. Each entry has a description, some history, any interesting “Fortean” (in particular UFO) related stories relating to it, a schematic map (with scaling information) with a guide how to get there and advice as to whether visitors are welcome or not. If you're very lucky there'll be a photo as well, but generally there isn't.
All the usual suspects get a mention in here, from HAARP in Alaska, through the inevitable Area 51 and Edwards, Wright-Patterson and Nellis Air Force Bases to less well-known sites such as US communications surveillance HQs, chemical warfare dumps and nuclear testing and disposal facilities, “Continuity of Government” underground bunkers and so forth. There's nothing here that is totally “secret” as all the information is gathered from public sources and actual site visits. Although the author claims, probably correctly, that would-be terrorists have probably already got this information, I wouldn't recommend taking it with you in your hand luggage if visiting the USA.
Whether such compilations of similar information would be legal in the UK is debatable – given the recent anti-terrorism legislation virtually anything might be deemed “information useful to terrorists” - even if compiled from public sources. That said if you're in the USA and looking for interesting places to visit this handy guide will prove a practical guide.
