Pitched as a sci-fi Shaun of the Dead, Gareth Carravick’s Brit comedy concerns three mates in a pub who accidentally stumble through a rip in the space-time continuum in the gents. Living up to our national expectations of what makes for good comedy leads, the trio are blundering losers, including an obligatory fat boy for weight-themed humour when the gags run dry. These three friends, exchanging joshing banter as believable as their theme park dinosaur costumes, wander round various stages of an unhappy future as they try to save the world and get back in time for last orders. It’s amiable enough, although I half suspect the film’s chronic lack of ambition drained me of the will to hate it. A shame, though, that it didn’t develop its chaos theory, censorship and Faustian themes instead of falling back on the gurning idiocy that film producers clearly believe we Brits find sidesplitting.
