Samurai Zombie

UK Release Date: 19-07-2010
Price: £15.99
UK Certificate: 18
Director: Tak Sakaguchi
Country: Japan
Distributor: MVM
Rating:

Undead swordsmen with maggots for brains

Zombified samurais is a great idea, and one that this film totally wastes. Another unhappy example of that misguided genre the horror-comedy, Samurai Zombie shuffles along in a shapeless mess of spurting arteries, dismembered limbs, and heads that pop like champagne corks, and the viewer is left to wile away the hours counting down the remaining victims, who all manage to put off their inevitable grisly fates for what seems an unconscionably long time. The film is partially redeemed by a decent twist in its dying moments, but a bit of pacing, some interesting characters, and a much earlier end for the unbearable pink-haired carjacker, would have worked wonders.
