Donnie Yen’s back to doing what he does best: scrapping and scowling. In a Ming Dynasty setting, he plays Qing Long (‘Green Dragon’), General-in-Chief of the Jinyiwei (‘Brocaded Robe Guards’), a mixture of bodyguards and assassins, fanatically devoted to the emperor. Complex and morally ambiguous, it’s a film of fights, double-crosses and unrequited romance with a cameo from the great Sammo Hung as Prince Qing. Certain to be hailed as a wuxia-pian classic.
