The Haunting of Marston Manor

UK Release Date: 02-08-2010
Price: £12.99
UK Certificate: 18
Director: David Greenlaw Sapp
Country: USA
Rating:

About as scary as Scooby Doo

A low-budget addition to the haunted house genre, this concerns a blind girl, Jill (the attractive and affable Brianne Davis), inheriting her old aunt’s shack. Is it haunted? Or is creepy and greasy gas-station attendant Hank (Ezra Buzzington), trying to scare her out of some prime real estate? And here’s the problem: despite solid performances (including a neat cameo from Thomas C Howell), it’s about as scary (and clichéd), as the average Scooby Doo episode… and it doesn’t even have Scooby in it! However, one mystery remains. Featuring exactly one (not particularly graphic) gunshot wound and a skeleton (shudder), why is this an 18 certificate?
