Four short horror tales are tenuously linked in this Thai anthology. ‘Happiness’, technically solid if somewhat dull, starts as a promising solitary character drama but turns into a tedious attempt at suspense that has us more interested in the set dressing than actress Maneerat Kham-uan’s fears. ‘Tit for Tat’ is slightly better, despite the camerawork apparently being executed by a monkey with ADHD. Best described as The Ring meets Final Destination, it lacks the charm of either but offers a few laughs. ‘In The Middle’ is a surprisingly brilliant horror comedy, with a charismatic cast and plenty of amusing banter between the hilarious characters; while hardly horrifying, it has some spooky moments. ‘Last Fright’ is, unfortunately, a return to form, a half-hour shrimp allergy scare that could have been done in a 10-minute short. A yawn-inducing first act can’t be saved by great acting from Laila Boonyasak, and by the time the horror finally gets going in the second act it’s hard to care. One decent film out of four is not worth £12.99 of anyone’s money, but you can probably pick it up for less than a fiver for the wonderful ‘In the Middle’.
