Scary sheep. That app­ar­ent oxy­moron is pretty much the only joke in this piece of Anti­pod­ean horror-comedy silli­ness – bar the odd fart and sheep-shagg­ing gag. A simple tale of carn­iv­or­ous mutant live­stock, the dia­logue has none of the sharp­ness which ele­vated Shaun of the Dead so far above its genre (“the sheep are revolt­ing” is about as soph­ist­ic­ated as it gets), and the sheep have more fully-real­ised person­al­it­ies than the char­act­ers, but there’s plenty of gore and some fan­tast­ic­ally grot­esque, WETA Work­shop-creat­ed eff­ects.
This is unpre­tent­ious enter­tain­ment aimed square­ly at what will no doubt be an app­rec­iat­ive demo­graphic.
