This is an odd one, and whether you take to it or not will depend on just how much of a comic fan you are.
Basically, you control a team of Marvel superheroes fighting through a series of samey levels replaying some of the major events in the Marvel universe of recent years. After you’ve picked your side, the fun begins. Your team of four heroes – you can swap them in a large unlockable roster – is sent to battle (through the medium of button-mashing) armies of enemy soldiers and opposing heroes. The USP is the ability to team up with another member of your team in a devastating fusion attack, which combines your powers in spectacular fashion.
But despite the superb graphics and the undeniable thrill of being Thor for a day, nothing can disguise the fact that this is unoriginal and dated in execution, simply an old-fashioned, side-scrolling beat-em-up. And releasing it on the heels of the magnificent Batman: Arkham Asylum only makes these shortcomings more obvious.
Having said all that, I loved it; so if you’re a Marvel fan, add a couple of points to the score.
