IRELAND

2003: Causeway Coast (more than 30 sightings of two cats released by a private collector, M, P, photo, FPS – see main text); nr Slieve Bearnagh (photo); Sion Mills (lynxlike).

2004: several attacks on sheep, cattle and ducks in the Scotshouse, Newbliss and Clones area, more than 10 sightings, video footage of ABC in Monaghan (later revealed to be a domestic cat), Army marksmen and the Garda helicopter and fixedwing aircraft deployed with no result; Cooley mountains; DonegalTyrone border (S, P).



SCOTLAND

ABERDEENSHIRE & BUCHAN


2003:
Auchnagatt; Banchory; Braemar (photo); Cairnie Woods, near Westhill (“The Cairnie Cat” – five reports in four weeks; later five within eight days); Dyce (two sightings); Insch (“pumalike”); Kingswells; Parkhill, near Aberdeen Airport; Westwinds (Hill of Kintore – sandycoloured, “a mountain lion”).

2004: Parkhill Forest; St Fergus.

2005: Burnhervie, nr Inverurie (beige); Drumblade, nr Huntly (M – 15 sheep killed, no definite big cat link).

2006: Cruden Bay (M); Mintlaw.


ANGUS


2003:
Broughty Ferry (possible wildcat “like a little panther” – light grey, ringed greyandwhite tail).

2004: Dundee (four sightings, one domestic’s disappearance blamed on big cat); Monifieth (puma and cub sitting in tree).


ARGYLLSHIRE


2003:
Campbelltown (white throat patch); Isle of Mull; Kintyre; Tighnabruaich.

2004: Cowal; Kintyre (numerous sightings, one of big cat carrying a cub); Tayinloan (two sightings).

2006: Ardgarton, Loch Long.


AYRSHIRE


2003:
Ardrossan (two sightings); Cumnock; Dalry; Galston (P, FPS, M, twoyearold pet rhea attacked and killed; photos of prints and dead bird); Irvine; Stewarton; Troon (three sightings).



BORDERS


2003:
Cardrona, nr Peebles (pure white, possibly albino); Galashiels (“Beast of Gala Hill”); Teridom, nr Hawick; Mansfield, nr Hawick; Innerleithen; Melrose (two cats seen together, one black, one fawncoloured or white, but like a Kellas cat, which is normally black).


DUMFRIES & GALLOWAY


2003:
Dumfries area (M – multiple sightings, lambs killed); St Anne’s Bridge (lynxlike – light & golden, white bib and dark lines down face, upright tufted ears); Thornhill (some descriptions say lynx, others say notlynx, grey, legs too long for body,).

2004: Georgetown Village; Thornhill–Auldgirth area (two sightings).


FALKIRK


2003:
Falkirk outskirts.


FIFE & Clackmannonshire


2002:
Dundee – Kirkaldy road.

2003: Collessie (P, photos – turned out to be a Great Dane); Dollar; Kelty (M – seen in “massacre” in henhouse); Ladybank; Levenmouth (FPS); RAF Leuchars (M – no sighting, deer carcass).

2004: Blairadam Forest in Kelty (Beast of Blairadam scared a runner so much he won a race); Cupar; Glenrothes (P; two sightings).

2005: Glenrothes (two sightings); Markinch (P); Newburgh; Tanshall.

2006: Balbirnie Woods nr Markinch (P, multiple sightings – see main text); Cardenden (M, no sighting); Glenrothes.


HIGHLANDS


2003: Abriachan, nr Loch Ness (M – ewe killed); Auldearn, nr Nairn; Black Isle, Rossshire (two sightings); Dornoch; Upper Carse, Ardersier.

2004: Durness (P); Lochcarron in Wester Ross (twice caught on CCTV footage); Thurso (P).

2005: Dornoch; Nairn (plus reports of lynx and wolverine released by “associates” of the Wild Beasts Trust).


LOTHIANS


2001:
(letter published 2003) South Queensferry.

2005: Dunbar; Haddington; Lasswade; Roslin (two sightings, photo).

2006: Torness Power Station, nr Dunbar.


MORAY


2003:
Pluscarden (P).


PERTHSHIRE


2003:
Keillour (FPS, M, four sheep savaged).


RENFREWSHIRE


2003:
Kilmacolm (tawny brown, pumalike); Lochwinnoch; Paisley (P, multiple sightings – some of a creature the size of large fox, grey with black spots, long black bushy tail, black pointy ears, black markings around eyes: possibly a raccoon); Johnstone castle (P).

2004: Houston.

2005: Paisley.

2006: Bridge of Weir; Kilmacolm.


STIRLINGSHIRE


2003:
Strathyre Forest (two sightings).


STRATHCLYDE


2005: KingPark in Glasgow (two sightings).


SUTHERLAND


2003
: Lairg.



WALES

ANGLESEY


2004: Llanddona (S, M – horse, missing foal, P, FPS involving helicopters and marksmen).


CARDIGANSHIRE


2004
: Talgarreg (S, M; leg bitten off rare Torwen lamb; blamed on the ‘legendary Beast of Bont’); Cardigan (P).

2005:
Dihewyd, nr Lampeter (S, M); Creuddyn Bridge (few days after Dihewyd sighting; M).

2006:
Talybont, nr Aberystwyth (several sightings over period of weeks; police received photographs of cat).


CARMARTHENSHIRE


2003:
Llangadog, nr Llandovery (S, M, FPS – see main text; all subsequent 2003 sightings ascribed to same creature); Cooperative Cremery, Llangadog (seen by lorry driver; police viewed CCTV tapes but no sign of ABC); Fairfach, (seen by lorry driver collecting milk at farm; armed police called to scene, FPS); Brechfa Forest (S, P); Llanedi (seen in back garden, FPS); Dryslwyn (seen bounding over hedge, FPS); Ashburnam Golf Course, Burry Port (“a big black cat, somewhere near the 13th hole”).

2006: Llangain (two separate sightings).


GLAMORGAN


2004
: Ogmore Vale (S, M).

2005: Baglan, Port Talbot (S, M – goat, P: see main text).

2006: Dulais Fach Road between Aberdulais and Tonna, nr Neath; Bett’s Nursery, Cadoxton, nr Neath (chased off by guard dog; reported as return of the ‘Baglan Beast’); Merthyr Tydfil valley (S, P; a ‘catlike creature’ was also reported on a nearby industrial estate).


GWENT


2003:
Goytre (S, P two sets, M, photograph); Croesyceiliog; Crumlin (on A472 to Pontypool); Pontypool (two sightings within a week; one by an exzookeeper who described the cat as a puma); Llanfapley (M; FPS).

2005: Cwmbran (photographed by Norman Evans and exposed as a fake involving a cuddly toy panther – see FT200:44–46). 2006: The Blorenge, nr Blaenavon (M – sheep, later claimed as the work of a hunting dog).


GWYNNED


2005
: Golan; Cwn Pennant; Ystradlyn; Penmorfa; Ynys Pandy (S, M).


PEMBROKESHIRE


2002:
Mathry (large cat with cub; hissed at witness); Glandwr Primary School, Whitland.

2003: Newport, (S, M, P; at least four lambs killed and further four put down after injuries); ‘north of the county’ (2 sightings, ‘light in colour with black ears, twice the size of domestic cat); St David’s; Trecwn (14 sheep mauled to death)

2005: Cinammon Hill, Haverfordwest (spotted by cyclist; later a particularly large dead otter found in area was suggested as the culprit).


POWYS


2003:
Black Mountains (P, FPS); Ystradglynais (S,M).

2004: Foel, nr Welshpool (caught on video by holidaymakers; Welsh Assembly officials recreated the footage and concluded it had been of a domestic cat)
