Turner Prize-winning artist Mark Wallinger, whose work has often dwelt on themes of religion and myth and the various ways we gather our information about the world, has put together a show exploring perception and the line between fact and fiction. It ranges from a Roman double-headed marble bust of Dionysus and Silenus, through stereoscopic photographs and 18th-century trompe l'oeil paintings to Wallinger's own Time and Relative Dimensions in Space – a life-sized mirrored Doctor Who TARDIS. Other featured artists include William Blake, Albrecht Dürer and Giuseppe Penone.
A series of talks, The Blackboard Lectures, will run alongside the exhibition: speakers include Dr Patrizia Di Bello on stereoscopy (19 Feb), Gary Russell on the TARDIS (27 Feb) and Marina Warner on illusion in art (1 Mar).
Mark Wallinger Curates: The Russian Linesman runs 18 Feb – 4 May at The Hayward, Southbank Centre, London SE1 8XX. Visit the Southbank Centre website for opening hours and ticket information.
