Two events coming up at the Grant Museum of fortean interest. The first, on Tuesday 16 June, is a big screen screening of Eerie C Kenton's 1932 The Island of Lost Souls, the original film adaptation of HG Wells' Island of Dr Moreau. Dr Joe Cain, UCL Historian of Science, will introduce the film, and a free glass of wine will be served in a private view of the museum. On Thursday 9 July, Brian Regal, who teaches the history of science, technology and medicine at Kean University, New Jersey, will be giving a talk titled 'Where have all the werewolves gone? The evolution of monsters'. It will consider the emergence of the werewolf in literature around 2000BC, the creature's importance for millenia as one of the most enduring and feared of all monsters, and its 21st century-supplanting in the popular imagination by ape-like monsters - the Yeti, Sasquatch and Bigfoot.
Grant Museum of Zoology, Darwin Building, University College London, Malet Place, London WC1E 6BT. Both events are free, no need to book. For more information ring 02076792647 or visit the museum's website.
