Intelligent, opinionated news magazine Bad Idea holds regular literary evenings in an old Victorian operating theatre in London. The next event is to be organised around the theme of transhumanism, the theory and science of using technology to enhance man's physical and mental capabilities. Amateur writers are invited to submit short (under 350 words) stories on the subject in advance, and a selection of these will be edited live by the magazine's editorial team on the night. This will be followed by a discussion of transhumanism with Cory Doctorow (Boing Boing blog hero and author of Little Brother), Gwyneth Jones (author of the Arthur C.Clarke Award-winning Bold As Love), Ian Watson (writer of the story for A.I., and a former Stanley Kubrick collaborator) and Matthew de Abaitua (author of The Red Men). The event is supported by Hendrick's Gin, who will be providing free cocktails.
Future Human, 7-9pm, Thursday 10 September, Old Operating Theatre Museum, 9a St Thomas's Street, London SE1 9RY. Tickets cost £12 and can be bought in advance or on the door. To submit a story, email it to info@badidea.co.uk no later than 3 September.
